Yes you're missing the fact we will be making Giles permanent in the summer and Delap is no longer playing for us. We also had 4 loans before January - Vinagre, Twine, Delap and Morton, we now have 4 - Ohio, Carvalho, Morton, Giles except this time one of the 4 will be staying with us, none of the previous 4 were likely to.
Has Delap actually gone? Last I heard LR wanted him to spend time split between us and Man City to keep him in and around the squad
Whether he's still on our books or going back, he's not contributing to the XI until at least the end of April, so we're not exactly reliant on him as a loan player which seemed the broader point.
Honestly didn’t know we’d given up Delaps registration. The fact we may or may not make Giles a permanent in summer, still makes him a loan now.
Where did I say that we'd done that? What precisely is the point being made then if Giles being a permanent in the summer has no bearing? (And for the record, he's replacing Vinagre, a player also here on loan, so it's one in one out regardless) It seemed to me that Exile was complaining that we had too many players here on loan in the Starting XI who would need replacing in the summer. Perhaps you can explain what other point he was making?
If the point is the rebuild in summer, it's worth noting that Sharp and Connolly are short term deals also. And we have Doc, Traore and Christie out of contract too. But I agree that its pretty arbitrary to focus purely on the loan aspect. In some cases we'll simply be using loans with buy options to satisfy FFP.
Precisely. And every chance Philogene goes to the PL too. You're right though, players on short term deals/out of contract are just as in need of replacement as the four loanees in our Starting XI.
I'd expect a 5th is likely before Thursday - reckon Abdulkadir will be structured similarly to Giles. but it's what a lot of non parachute clubs have to do to compete as we don't have budgets to support bringing in the kind of quality to compete all on permanents.
I wouldn't, Omur and the unnamed winger are supposedly permanents. Omur could well be another loan-to-buy but then we'll have people saying "Doesn't matter that he's joining in the summer he's on loan now"
Yeah, I suspect Abdulkadir will be similar to Giles. End of the day a loan is just a short term deal like any other so shouldn't be seen as any different to so called permanents in their last few months in the immediate term. But then I guess some people have to highlight the potential negative in a very positive window so far.
I think the deal with Omur is very much a 'shop window' with a purchase but a very lucrative sell on %. Thats what has been suggested in different reports..
That's the name of the game - buy young, develop, sell on to buy again. If we go up maybe we hold onto them longer.
