Permanent offer on the table for Giles. As much as I’d like it, I’m not sure we’re in the position to be paying £3m+ for a left back
He can’t exactly pump £100m in through a sleeve sponsorship though. Every sponsorship gets assessed to ensure it’s a fair market value. Stops the Saudis boosting their ffp by paying way over the odds to sponsor themselves
Not just a sleeve sponsorship though is it? Sll the training gear, advertising in the ground. All the clips on the tv channel. It will add up ho a decent amount, probably with more to come if the airline steps aside in the summer.
Sleeve and training kit sponsor for a relatively small championship would be lucky to fetch 500k. Imagine the sponsorship ramps up next season and becomes main kit sponsor but still can’t see it being as much as people imagine
In terms of FFP headroom I had the impression the main issue we had was on wages rather than fees spent. We had a lot of players on big wages after the first transfer window didn't we? Most of those, but not all, have moved on. For instance didn't we send Oscar out on load to get his wages off the books more than because we didn't think we needed him.
Just a thought, as far as the Turkish players are concerned, could Acun pay a percentage of their wages through his company there. So for example when making the contract, say 50% of the wages are put into the contract with the club and paid by them and a side agreement to pay 50% in Türkiye? That would be a way of getting around the FFP situation?
Man City did the same, amongst other things obviously, which could eventually lead to them being relegated from the Premier League.
They had a perfectly competent LB already who suits what they need more. Doughty is fantastic, was shocked when they spent as much as they did on Giles.
