No idea what this is about but it puts me in mind of the ads Boris Johnson was so fond of ...

... reminded me of Trump then, does now.

Like the original poster said we dont need to replicate US politics here, but sadly we seem to be heading that way. I predict plenty more of this sort of nonsense from both sides, they have plenty of form.

Of course it shouldn't, but it's a good joke. Labour are always trying to make cheap jokes at the Tories' expense, so it's turnabout as fair play.

Yeah, Labour have horrible form, but so do the tories. Cant get on board with either if this is how they try to win us over. Starmer represents a terrorist group in court, Sunak doesnt prosecute child sex offenders. Neither are true for crying out loud, and both make me less motivated to vote for any of them.

I'm pleased I'm up in Scotland, where voting for whoever is most likely to unseat the SNP is an easy decision to make.

The choice down in England, bloody hell. Proven failure or probable failure. It's like sacking Steve Bruce and appointing Steve Bruce the next day.

The reality of most crimes is that if they have what they need materially and emotionally they are less likely to offend and if they are likely or not to get caught. This Rwanda deterrence is a joke. Sort out the foreign policy so there is less need to scarper and shared acceptance of those who must travel - same as we did with Rwanda with other continents- and send the billions to be wasted on a gimmick on policing traffickers.

Looks class that marra. My son, 15, is taking lessons at the driving range (Newcastle Rd, next to Miller and Carter), think it will be a while before we look at playing at such a grand course. Anyone got any recommendations for a local golf course suitable for a first timer?

We love it, but the only draw back is only 2 par 3's and 2 par 5's. It has a great halfway house
The fee's are quite high, but the upkeep of the hall and gardens are big, as is the course.

Have you got any par 3 course locally, alway a good start. Most clubs run a cheap starter price for youngster. Look for a clubs that have a strong junior section with practice areas.

Back in your box Mr Sunak.

    Haroon Siddique Legal affairs correspondent
    Tue 16 Jan 2024 19.52

Sue Carr hits back and tells Sunak: the judiciary won’t be cowed

Less than four months into her role, the first lady chief justice has already shown more inclination to stand up to politicians than many of her male predecessors managed across their entire tenures.

In one fell swoop, in her first appearance before parliament’s justice committee, Dame Sue Carr challenged the government on two of the main political stories of the day – the Rwanda refugee scheme and the Post Office IT scandal.

Wearing a brooch in the manner of fellow judicial trailblazer Lady Hale – the first female president of the supreme court – Carr first stated that decisions on how judges were deployed were “exclusively a matter for the judiciary” after the government said it would move 150 judges to deal with migrant appeals under the new law, as it seeks to allay concerns from Conservative MPs about the bill.

Carr said that headlines related to the move drew “matters of judicial responsibility into the political arena” and that it was “important that people understand that clear division”.

At the same committee meeting, Carr rejected the notion that the judiciary had approved government legislation that would grant blanket exoneration to everyone convicted as a result of the Post Office Horizon IT scandal. Such a move would mean bypassing the court of appeal, the normal avenue for challenging convictions, and has already raised concerns about ministers encroaching on the independence of the judiciary.

"Taking Back Control" is basically the Tory Party riding roughshod over the Monarchy, The Judiciary, Parliament and whoever else gets in the way of them. They are above all those things in their own minds merely because they have inherited wealth and privilege. They are a very real danger to democracy itself.

I find higher green fees are worthwhile mate. My course invests a lot into the quality of our course and the greens in particular are superb. Winter golf is excellent as well, I am out most Fridays and Saturdays now and it is very playable. Pay for what you get really.

What will happen in reality is the government will request and the judiciary will do everything they can to make it happen. Because it's an easy win for both, and to not do it would be drawing the supreme court further into the politics they're happy to pile in on when it suits.
