I think Dodgy Djilobodji was also on the McKay list. Either way the character of the players we sign now is light years ahead of them two ****ers.
He’s not really a goalscorer though and he’s 31 now so he’s not going to get any better. As much as he’ll be a nuisance up top we need the 3 behind him to contribute and currently only 1 of them is. And even then people think Clarke is the best thing since sliced bread but nearly half of his tally this season are penalties and there’s players in this league that our fans would have a wobble over bringing into our team who have more or less the same combined as him so far this season - one of them has just gone to Boro for £2.5m.
Regarding WorkyTicket’s mention of Boro’s transfer business, I checked if they had earned much from player sales. Akpom went for over £10 million and they are estimated as being about even in terms of buying/ selling. Surprisingly, we are also estimated to be even. Edit - sorry, slightly up by €1.3 million. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/afc-sunderland/transfers/verein/289 That’s already taking into account selling Stewart. The values for Pembele and Aouchiche - versus Gooch, Batth and Lihadji are unknown. They may roughly cancel out or be a bit in our favour if we got a decent fee for Lihadji. We may not be armed with as good a January war chest as thought so could we be open to selling a big asset to improve the team?
Doesn’t involve us but gets linked nearly every window, Joe Hugill is going to button on loan, interested to see how he gets on
Doesn’t change anything as we know he’s injured, but he’s not ‘out on loan’ now… https://safc.com/news/team-news/2024/january/embleton-recalled-from-loan-spell
Assumed he had come straight back when he got injured. Can't see him having any impact on the 1st team this season, so hopefully he is fit enough by end of the window to send him back out somewhere. He's had horrendous luck with injuries
