Ive no idea what Abel is like these days and I can't imagine too many do so unless he's been scouted and is seen to have the quality needed I'd hope we stay well clear. He should be judged on his current ability not the player we had once up on a time.
I loved Abel and he's still been scoring goals at a decent level, but you'd bring in him or Sharp, definitely not both.
Point i was making is he would cost nothing just wages and for what the club hopes for this season he is worth the gamble and as OP above said he is still scoring goals at a decent level, what's the risk it's an extra frontman in the door minimal cost who can give us that little push.
....last seen in Cross Keys, before entering the training ground....Assuming its still open,,,,,btw that's Cross Keys not the training ground.
He recently scored an 'iconic' bicycle kick goal, and despite a season blighted by injury, still managed about a goal every other game (12 in 26 I think) playing for one of the top teams in the Uruguayan top league.
5th highest scorer in the league when released. https://www.aiscore.com/tournament-uruguay-primera-division/8vmqy9i39hek9r3/stats
Sounds like he still has a bit about him but..."a season blighted by injury", probably not the best idea.
Maybe he wanted a longer contract or more money that they would give him. Or maybe he's completely crocked. I've no idea. But as others have said, might be worth a short-term punt and might be attractive to him on nostalgia value, go out on a possible high.
I think the issue is his fitness, and besides you don't bring in Abel to replace Delap if you already have Connolly and Sharp anyway. There will be other options if replacing Delap is a route we need to go down.
As Kalman has said Abel is more of a poacher type and we’ve just brought that in with Sharp. I get that romance in bringing an old boy back and running the table with them but it appears the club is now taking this second half of the season as a real opportunity. Need to be more ruthless and bring in someone who helps with the way we want to play
If Delap is out for the season, the only positive I can muster is that it greatly increases our chances of signing him on loan again for next season.
