How? We’ve been winning games. They’ve sacked a manager who had hit a brick wall. They’ve brought in a manager that had premier league clubs after him 6 month ago. If some fans aren’t happy that’s not a disaster for the club.
I criticise the club myself, I'm no rose tinted dummy. It's just sad to see the anger directed at our club, worse when it's directed at anyone who isn't clutching a pitchfork. It's much easier to criticise than defend the club ... ... which is why some choose that course. It's impossible to say, "No one will be happier than me to be proved wrong at defending the club." Think about it ....
I was just pointing out that there are extremes on both side of the argument. Wailing fannies or happy clapper is the go to depending on the side you sit. I'm as guilty as anyone for losing my temper when people are constantly negative, I do however make a hypocrite of myself in wanting the off the field side sorting out, in my defence I see a flying Commercial side possibly saving us having to sell a player we need in the future.
Think there’s some nuance to the ‘speakman picking the team’ narrative. Speakman does not ‘pick the team’ per se. He doesn’t select the players who start and make the bench. There is, however, pressure exerted on the person who DOES select the team - with regard to prioritising the younger players over the experience. “Fair enough” may be the view of some, however a head coach should be allowed to pick the players from their squad who are going to win the game. Pritch being a prime example recently. I agree with the model and the need to develop young players, but we need to be flexible in that if we have aspirations of top 2 / play offs.
Fair enough mate, you're obviously clued up with this. On a percentage scale of 1 to 100% where does the pressure currently rest?
Completely honest mate - not too sure. I just know that the person selecting the team has been well aware of who they are wanted to select. Tone threatened to say too much on the matter in his final post match, and he was subsequently sacked.
If I was Mowbray I’d have been fuming at that and would have made it known what was happening as soon as I was out of the club. Wonder why he didn’t.
People are in for a real shock when they find out this whole thing about the head coach not being the only one with input on team selection is extremely common at every club that employ the head coach model. Club I work at the head coach doesn't have full autonomy. That only happens at clubs which employ managers. These days players have promises of the number of games in contracts, loan deals have % of games played clauses where the club would be fined if the player doesn't play a certain number of games. However, the head coach will get the majority of the say, if that wasn't the case here surely Speakman would be selecting the players that cost the most money (Rusyn) and wouldn't be selecting players like Pritchard and Dack. It is an extremely normal system in football these days so i'm really not sure why it seems to be a big issue here recently?
People seem to know a lot more than I do tbh ... ... after much consideration I think I'll just stick to my daft lifetime principle. 'Support the club no matter what, sing yer head off and go daft when we score.' I might be naive but it feels more appealing than eternal anguish, analysis and attacks on the club.
Listen mate, I’m like you in that sense. I support the club no matter what. Go to every game that I can. I’ve also been very careful to not attack the club - I actually love what KLD and KS have done since taking over. But I am correct in what I’m saying, and people are free to do with that as they please.
More teams seem to be adopting the same tactic against us; suck us up to their end with everyman between us and goal, then breaking out into wide open spaces.
well, until somebody comes out publicly and tells people what (if anything) is actually going on in the background it makes little to no sense listening to rumours and repeating them across social media...the problem now is that everyone seems to think that people only 'talk' on the internet because they know what the feck they are talking about, sorry, but most just talk to get more like/viewers/subscriptions/richer. if people do not hear what they want they question what was not said, basically saying that they did not say it therefore they must be doing it and once they get a hold of some story they refuse to let it go, especially in the world of football where in most cases it WILL come true eventually...well call me a blatantly stupid old feckwit but i am quite happy to give the current coach (whoever that may be at the time) and the current ownership (again, whoever that may be at the time) my support in the hope they might just get it right, statistically i am going to me far more wrong than i will be right but i can live with that because thinking the other way will drive me into being a shallow and despised person who hates everything without reason.
Of course people are entitled to their opinion, I've no idea why they think that's being denied when someone has a different view ... ... it's just contrary to my lifetime devotion despite times that were much worse than they are now. Traipsing out of Gillingham away, then Gillingham at home takes some fuking beating tbh.
This bloke is clearly a very poor choice. Speakman has managed to give the job to someone nobody wanted and who doesn't have much of a record. The enthusiasm is draining away from the club and has been since the day after the Leeds game.
I didn't do the Gillingham away but did the home game in the Roker end. Scarred me for life in all honesty that game.
This is a joyride compared to that imo ... ... people, these days, become hysterical if the tickets office is closed for lunch
