15 games unbeaten and now the banana skin of the boss’s former club. Will this be battle of the bore offs?

I got lost in Swansea as a child at an indoor market. I think I was lost for maybe 25 seconds, but it left its mark.

The city of Swansea is called Abertawe in Welsh. This means it is at aber or estuary of the Tawe river. There is no sea of swans at all - and in fact the English name comes from the vikings. A man named Svein owned an island (an ey) there. The swans should really be nicknamed the Svens.

We last played Swansea in the FA Cup. We won 3-2 with goals from… people who no longer play for us. The only player who scored for either team who is still present was Bednarek giving them a free gift.

We are too good at home them. Hopefully 3-0.

Winning 3-0 against a team from Wales? We'll probably get the points from a drop-kick...

Southampton v Swansea City (15:00)
Referee:- KEITH STROUD
Assistants:- Lee Venamore and Greg Read
Fourth Official : Alan Young

Hampshire born official Keith Stroud has been appointed the referee for the Swans trip to Southampton on Boxing Day. It will be the first time that Stroud has officiated a Swansea City game this season, he has however been the fourth official for the home games against QPR and Huddersfield Town. The last Swansea game which Keith Stroud was the man in the middle for was the 3-2 home win over West Bromwich Albion on the last day of the 2022-2023 season. This will be the 12th Championship game that Stroud has taken charge of so far this season, during which he has handed out 59 yellow cards and 1 red card. This will be Stroud’s second Southampton game this season, having overseen the Saints 1-0 home win over Bristol City in November, when he also booked Adam Armstrong, Kyle Walker-Peters and former Swan Ryan Manning.

We've got a huge opportunity to pile the pressure on Ipswich with back to back home games. Ipswich also play in the evening on Boxing Day so we will cut the gap to 4 points with a win for a few hours at least.

Need to score more and get the GD better. I can see a space opening up if Ipswich falter…really piss me off if we miss out on GD alone. Can remember many seasons when our decent GD made all the difference. Still that’s assuming the season carries on as now….lots of games left to turn everything on its head.

Leeds just beat the team in second 4-0. We Labour to one goal wins in most of our games. Even against lower tier opposition. I am not prepared to count on GD at all. Realistically we need more points than at least 22 other teams to go up automatically
