League is the only thing that matters to me. The FA Cup is secondary, even if we are playing Saudi United. Lets back the new manager and see where he can take us. If we reach the play offs, he's been a successful appointment. If not, he's failed to reach the club's objective. If we finish mid table or below, the new appointment will have been a failure.

We are still in a good position. Let's give him a chance and re-assess our position in May.

I may have picked the wrong time on the wrong night when everyone is a few scoops in for this post but here goes anyway.

Last time I saw this level of vitriol aimed at anyone on here was to the two chancers who thoroughly deserved it. Michael Beale hasn’t even been appointed yet. If, as all the media and ITK’s suggest, he is our new head coach then it’s time to put it to one side, give him a chance, and get behind the club. Horrible feeling we are about to be engaging in a huge amount of self sabotage.

Once appointed, I will support him. Until then, I will show that I don't want him just in case the board listen to fans.

I do think, whatever anybody says, the club has a real chance to kick on here and appoint someone who galvanised all of us. Not only have they not done that, they’ve managed to appoint someone who has united the fanbase in disappointment before they’re even announced. It’s a ridiculous decision and a huge gamble. It ought to pay off for them, because there won’t be much leeway if it goes tits up

Depends which bits you read for me. In the Fishpaste article there are glowing references from Jermaine Defoe and Gerrard. Roker Report point out the views of rangers fans which ain’t glowing at all. The Echo article is fairly balanced. KLD and Speakman see something there, one putting his money into it, other might well be hanging his job on it, and neither I believe are fools.
In terms of the fan base and popular opinion, I think that will hold very little sway. Popular appointments immediately springing to mind are Moyes, McMenemy, O’Neill. Two were abysmal and one just so-so.

The club is building a sustainable future, one where we buy young players to profit off, I.e. Bellingham and also where we get players who are good player but lost their way a bit on the cheap like Roberts and Pritch coming when we were in league 1.

Maybe they see something like that in beale. Its reported he had a good reputation as a coach before the rangers job so maybe they see him as someone who has the attributes but lost his way a bit and they think he is worth the chance to build it here again.

It does seem an underwhelming appointment but no appointment is guaranteed to succeed, think we need to trust the club they made the right choice like they did with Neil and Mowbray.

We have some "interesting" fans...Some were calling for the head of Mowbray and let a new guy have a crack till the end of the season...pretty much a free hit for him.
That has been done and now the new guy is not what they want. Maybe KLD and KS should have a fans forum where there is an open discussion about who the club should appoint then let the pair of them go out and do a deal to get the chosen guy in.
I didn't want Mowbray to be sacked...sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for.

Also, be interesting to hear how many are still keen on Dodds getting the top job as yesterday he failed miserably. He team selection and tactics were woeful.

All good managers/head coaches start off as someone who doesn't have the experience.

Worth remembering that the vast majority of employed managers have failed somewhere during their careers.

Personally i'll support whichever manager the club bring in until it's time for him to go. If it's Beale who's appointed he at least deserves our support at the beginning and hopefully he proves the doom mongers wrong because if he does we'll be in a good spot

Exactly. The other names mentioned have no experience in the English game which has been bought up before in regards to both players and managers,

I honestly think that the club must feel damned if they do and damned if they don't at times

It’s enthused me massively. I can see entirely why the club have gone for him (and no, not because Speakman is so pathetically weak and clueless that it just takes a few buzzwords in an interview to win him over :emoticon-0114-dull:)

I couldn’t care less how he speaks to be honest if he improves us as a team, and I think he’s got a very good chance of doing so provided our fans give him a chance rather than self sabotaging by giving him grief from the get go.

I do hope though that we don’t abandon the idea of a high press altogether. I think our crowd responds brilliantly to it and utilising our supporters can help a manager here no end.

A couple of mentions in that article that players loved him and his sessions too. I appreciate that’s from his time as a coach rather than the main man but this idea that he immediately rubs players up the wrong way seems off.

You can't please all of the people all of the time.
It just appears that those that are displeased are shouting the loudest, at the moment.
I'll wait and see what transpires and then make my judgement.

Just for the record I contacted a QPR supporter I know who advised that he was a good coach for them and had them playing decent football.
The downside was the similarity to Alex Neill when he left. Hopefully Beale will have learned from that.
I don't expect managers / head coaches to be Saints I just hope for decent football and results. I mean Peter Reid was no saint, but he gave us a few years of decent football.
