Speakman probably knows more about Dodds, and his philosophy, than any other possible candidate. The club will also know how he interacts with the players, who praised him highly after the West Brom and Leeds games. And, ever more important, will have a good working and personal relationship with Speakman.
Reims know he is one of the hottest properties in world football and this would be a major factor in a tribunal, if he comes he is not coming cheap.
I was directly told KLD was 'en boule' with Mowbray over his moaning about language barriers ... narked in other words. Football has moved on, as has technology. I managed to spend 4 months travelling around Italy using my phone app tbf.
Wish people would stop referring to Dodds as a coach he is head of individual player development. Talking like he is just a coach makes it sound like he is just one of the boys on the training pitch running drills but he is responsible for much more than that and has a team who work below him to achieve what his remit is, think it is important that the wider fan base understand this as he is the guy who tailored the development of Jobe and Jude and is tailoring personal development programs for our bright young stars as well as taking charge of first team affairs at the minute in effect doing 2 jobs. Saying we don't want to lose him as a coach is not quite correct and takes away from him his stature within the club, I have been very impressed with how he has managed to galvanize the players at a difficult time and truly hope the club show him how valued a member of the team he is (with an improved contract) if and when we appoint a new head coach. Sorry just my rant for today
V true my first six months living in Spain I used babelfish and got by ok with workmen shops everything basically
I don't disagree with a word of this mate ... ... in my defence I use 'coach' as I don't want to type out head of individual player development every time, and tbf he is a coach. He's obviously highly respected and I found it sickening with the reception, on social media, when he was made 'caretaker manager' ... .... or whatever's the correct terminology Mr Pedantic
And,on the evidence of Tuesday night, you could make a very powerful case for how much he knows and understands the capablilities of the players and for their trust in him to execute the plan...which,let's face it,they weren't exactly used to. Constant communication aswell.....Roberts getting a note handed to him, which he tucked into the top of his sock, spoke of the tactical awareness too. Impressive.
I get that mate but just felt like I needed to point out his actual job as for some they seem to think that all we would have to do is replace a coach if Dodds is given the head coach job but the truth is we would have to replace one of the best in the business at what he does and I am not sure we are able to do that. It will probably be easier to replace a head coach than to replace Dodds at this present time.
As you know mate, I'm just having a bit of banter with you. I don't get much reliable info these days but still get the odd message from a well known popular RTG poster who's involved with an aspect of the club. He won't post anything, on there, because of the endless spite and hounding of anyone ITK, plus he likes keeping his job. I 'got to know him' during the Dell stuff when he would either confirm or reject what I believed, without giving me much info. He's only confirmed two things, in this situation ... ... the language barrier issue and, more importantly, why they don't want to have to replace Dodds. If they give him the manager's job and he fails, it would be virtually impossible to bring him back to his current job. So we'd have effectively lost two critical positions in one fell swoop.
Another good post from you (don't get big-headed!). One of the worries I have about the appointment of a new coach is that he will want to bring in his own team, which may probably lead to Dodds not being able to carry on in the role he's excellent at with us. That would be a great pity.
The last time they went for a new manager they made a meal of the process with Keane. I am beginning to wonder if the same hasnt happened again with this fella. Hope I am wrong but to me, looking as impassionately as I am able, I am not convinced the club are walking the walk with this process, having talked the talk.
Thankfully the club haven't said a word ... .... all the talk is on forums and social media. Interviewing someone doesn't imply a wish to make an offer. We scout players very carefully and obviously examine their attitude and character ... that will apply to managers imo. Nigel Pearson has managed in the PL but is slightly unbalanced and a bit of a Rolf Harris.
I’ll be honest I was impressed how he mixed things up and addressed some weaknesses we have game one but not reassured enough to consider him a head coach. His tactical nous resulting in a win versus Leeds game 2 hugely impressed me. Leeds have real quality and are bang in form and they left pointless and frustrated. He’s clearly a very smart bloke and the players were reenergised so I wouldn’t complain if he gets at least a longer run at it.
Beale wouldn’t be my pick but you can see the thinking given how highly rated he was as a coach rather than a manager before Rangers. Wolves wanted him before he went north etc. Always slightly sceptical of success and failure when you’re a manager of one of the Old Firm given it’s all so binary.
It's so easy to shout that something IS NOT, what is infinitely harder is to say that something IS. Which yer man never does.
