https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...nster-Keir-Starmers-party-officials-meet.html The mob protest last night against labour outside of the most diverse business groups (SMEs for Labour) by calling them racist with inherently racist signage and slogans. Gotta love it.
Interesting interview from Sky, with the Israeli Ambassador stating that there will not be a two state solution, when the fighting ceases.
Two state solution hasn't been a realistic outcome for years, probably since camp David? Neither side wants it
The IRA and the UDA didn’t want the solution to the troubles, but Ireland needed it and it improved things enormously Hamas and the current Israeli Govt don’t want it but there will be plenty of Israelis and Palestinians that do and there’s no better solution available
Agreed. Up to date poll says 72% of Palestinians in Gaza support 7/10 and 82% in the West Bank. Good luck turning that into a viable two state solution. Israel would be suicidal to do so. They have to find a way, though. Getting rid of UNRWA is a good start and perhaps involving the Emirati.
Maybe. I agree it's probably the best outcome in an ideal world but too many issues around it aren't even close to being addressed, and tbh, it also strikes me a little bit of Western nations trying to dictate to other regions about their centuries old conflict and what all the answers are.
May I refer you to Peter Taylor's excellent book, Operation Chiffon. The IRA and the UDA may not have wanted it early on, but they certainly did once it became clear there was no other solution.
Clearly not close, but Ireland seemed the same. Although this is more complex I’ve assumed it was the only solution to this problem and supported by moderates on both sides rather than a Western imposition
De-escalation of violence from both sides would change this This is support for a violent response to people that are committing violence against you (This could be applied to either side)
I think de-radicalization has to happen first. No more UNRWA sponsoring hate filled school syllabuses. No more Ben Gvir and his aggressively right wing allies in Israel. Then perhaps we can get into a position where peace and two state solutions are more than just an idealist fallacy.
There's a number of sources reporting hateful materials this amongst them:- "The use of hateful school materials, sponsored by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), is a widespread practice in Palestinian schools. These books encourage violence, reject peace, and demonise both Israel and the Jewish people. Furthermore, the UNRWA’s lack of effective mechanisms to ensure adherence to UN values is appalling. Unfortunately, this picture seems to be confirmed by the Georg Eckert Institute (GEI) in a study commissioned by the EU. Leaked parts of the study clearly illustrate how EU-funded and UNRWA-sponsored Palestinian textbooks continue to incite hatred and violence against Jews andhttps://www.europarl.europa.eu/doceo/document/E-9-2021-003199_EN.html Israel."
Put it like this. Switzerland, their biggest donor and mentally neutral in anything has just defunded UNRWA. It’s crazy how deeply baked in these emotions are. On both sides. edit: actually 9th biggest donor not the biggest at $21million per year
Also the travel bans on settlers is a good start but that needs to go further too. I’ve no idea what the solution for the West Bank is, but Israeli settlers is definitely not it.
