I am a simple man with a simple mind. Can anyone explain to me this buy back clause. Philogene seems to be at the top of his game and getting better. Does this mean that Villa simply say, here is £5 Million. He is ours again now. Do we have no say at all in keeping him if Villa want him back? Have we no say in trying to keep him (including if he himself wanted to stay); is the resale price out of the club's control too, e.g. if his stock value rises well beyond what Villa will pay.
Dont put yourself down mate.....if you were a simple man with a simple mind ...you would support hull fc or hull kr
As far as we're aware, the buy-back only applies if we're in the same league and is set at £15m. So to lose him to Villa, we'd need to get promoted and Philogene would have to want to go back.
OK, that sounds good. Now, can you go a little deeper regarding his contract with us. If anyone (any league) comes sniffing in January, can he be sold? e.g., Leicester look like they are going back up - if they fancy him and they offer a super price and he himself likes the idea, can such a sale proceed? Or say, a mid-table Premier league club - can they steal a march on Villa and buy him in January? As 1 above but in the Summer and we have missed promotion.
To add to what OLM said, if villa activate the buy back, any other club can come in and offer more ( for example ) which we can also accept.
Any club can come in for him at anytime with an offer and it's up to us to then accept or reject it. For what it's worth, I don't think we are in any danger of losing him in Jan, he's starting to attract eyes, but those eyes will want to see him over a longer period. Summer may be a different kettle of fish though
From all the above, I am trying to work out what advantage the current deal is to Villa? Looks only like first refusal should we reach the Premiership. If he only shows marginal potential, then we could sell him to anyone for whatever price while in this league. If he demonstrates superb potential and we remain in this league, then we can sell him for whatever price to whoever. If we win promotion and he has shown superb potential, then Villas buyback offer could be trumped by anyone who feel he is worth more than the buyback. Am I understanding this correctly?
Obviously all deals are different and I maybe should have made it clear in my posts that what I was saying was how I've seen most buy back deals work before and that ours could well be different. Villa can bid £15m and it have to be accepted and even if another club bids £30m let's say... They can offer the player a much better deal and seal the transfer and there's nothing we can do.
Right, I think I am getting this now...but (and it's a big butt like Nellie the Elephant's), OLM stated earlier that there is the added caveat that if the buyback is exercised by Villa, Philogene himself would also have a say on whether he wants to go back or not? If that is true, wouldn't it seem much more likely that he would stay as a big fish in a smaller pond so to speak and get Premiership games every week instead of being a bench warmer.
I doubt we'll find ourselves in the Premiership any time soon mate. Switching codes to Rugby Union would be a pain in the wotsits and Philogene isn't likely to be much cop as a Prop.....
Money talks and if villa are offering a much higher contract value then I'm sure he'd go. But yes it's ultimately up to the player.
Love Jaden, I really do. One of the best players ever to pull on the amber and black. However, has he improved from the player Villa sold? Has his decision making improved? Would he improve Villa's current squad? I'd answer No to all three questions.
There's definitely been improvement, but there's still a long way to go for him to be a prem player. He needs a good couple of season playing week in week out imo.
I've said this. I love him and I think he's fantastic with a lot of room to grow. Do I also think that he's a premier league winger right now? No. The quality of full backs is vastly different and he wouldn't get the space he's afforded now. Villa do have aspirations I think that are a bit beyond him right now as well.
Does that imply Villa could get him from City for 15 m and immediately sell to the club bidding 30 million - somehow splitting the addition money to the benefit of theselves, the player and the club offering 30m ? e.g. Villa get 5, player gets 5 and club 2 pays 5 m less?
In answer to the question no one knows really what’s in the contract But I doubt Villa are mugs If he gets us promoted we might keep him longer If we don’t he might fancy another year with us depending on who else is in for him
I'd answer 'dunno' to all three. You'd have had to have watched him a serious amount prior to us signing him to have a considered response. I'd barely heard of him until he played for us.
