I think that a lot of posters on here are not happy with some of the team selections and did not state that anybody had berated the players I said now is not the time to do it, and as I said in my post I expected some ups and downs along the way so really we are getting some of the inconsistencies I expected however I do think we are capable of much better but I just think patience is required at the moment.
Agreed. Every team has blips across a season - some win 5 in a row, then lose 5 in a row. Some win 3, lose 4, draw etc etc Our team is young and is still learning. We'll get more points this season but I think we'll be no higher than 8th. Whether some see that as progress or regression is a point to debate, but I guarantee the likes of Ekwah, Huggins, Hume, Ballard, Ba etc will improve as a result of so much game time. Going up this season isn't the ultimate aim for me - stated it numerous times that I have very little desire to be part of the PL right now and what has made the last 18 months really enjoyable has been going to the matches with my Son, my Dad and my mates and seeing a team ready to compete. Teh matchday experience is what it's all about for me. I stopped going for a few weeks under Parkinson, it was unbearable. Now I cannot wait for each home game to come around. That might make me defeatist, accepting mediocrity etc etc but I don't really have any illusions that we'll be a Champions League team at any time in my life.
well i get annoyed when we lose but i also try to have a look at each game and even watch the 'full 90' again to see if there are glaring faults...the only problems i see (and this is just my opinion) are, onien in central defence and a lack of a good CDM. onien would be one of my first lads on the team sheet and he did a good job at RB but he is not a CD. CDM is a hard position which i think needs that experienced man in there, someone to read the play and take up positions to stop them, rather than just diving into tackles, being ahead of the game and stopping these attacks we are seeing now that leads to a first shot on target-first goal situation. if promotion to the dreaded premier league is your only goal then nothing except constant wins will satisfy, if you want to see this club slowly growing and improving into a squad that will hold it's own (at least) in the premier then we have to accept some bad results as these lads are still learning.
Imo I think we played a better style last season. We were scoring wonder goals every week. I've noticed this season we have gone a lot more direct with diagnal balls often used. I think it's good to get the ball up the pitch quicker on occasions but last season we were a lot better to watch...imo.
To be fair, we'd be throwing away points if we were the best team in the league ... we're not. Failing to win doesn't always mean you threw the points away. I also remember people demanding Corry Evans should be dropped until they realised the job he was doing ... ... or perhaps a run in the team got other players used to what he was doing and trying to get them to do.
Corry Evans isnt good enough, I will be very surprised if he plays for us again, we have thrown points away, if you dont think we have its not my problem
Yes, our big mistake is constantly playing teams who also want to win. Of course I believe we've lost points that we shouldn't, every football fan in the world thinks that ... ... I just don't think we're a good enough team to win every game, no matter how you shuffle the team.
You have by implying 1 point out of the last 4 away games isn't good enough and the last two games were ****e.
I'm not 'going' anywhere mate, just making comments. If you're saying we threw the points away at Plymouth surely the same applies at Stoke or Swansea. You can therefore say it about every game. The reality is that, as with the Stoke game, circumstances helped conspire against us ... ... I was right at the top of the stand and could see it was a totally blatant handball. They scored and it was totally against the run of play. To me 'throwing points away' is missing penalties or a three goal lead.
I'm just enjoying us not getting humped virtually every week. We have not been outplayed all season. We have always been competitive, even when playing poorly. Championship level players, with Championship level managers, are going to make mistakes and decisions which may baffle. Thats the level we are at. The season after we got promoted I, and most fans, would have been happy with comfortable bottom half finish. Then I would have been happy with mid table this season. Maybe a sneaky outside chance of the play offs next season or the season after. We are way ahead of schedule in terms of league position and squad quality. I feared that we'd be a victim of our own success, folk thinking anything below a play off position this season would be failure. Just remember that there are maybe 12 teams in the same boat. Only they have been long established or have been Premier League clubs faily recently. Their fans can anxiously push for Premier League and chuck a wobbly when they get beaten to the post by a Luton. I'm just happy to bide our time whilst we continue to entertain. For the majority of my time supporting Sunderland it has been comparable to eating cold baked beans everyday, straight from the tin. Since promotion I am now being treated to steak. Alot of the time it is not being cooked to how I like it but I'm nowhere near the stage where I'm gonna start complaining to the waiter.
I'm enjoying every game and looking forward to Wednesday... however, it was a strange feeling going into the Plymouth game, straight after the international break. I watch the game in the pub with a few mates and we all felt the break had disrupted our rhythm
Nev, just stop all the crap, this I am the best supporter in the world ****, we are throwing away points, you seem to be happy with this, well done, I am sure your groupies on here will give you a like.
I've not mentioned anything about me as a supporter, not in the slightest. I've done nothing but put my honest opinion, in response to your posts, and tried having a laugh with you. So your attack is a bit upsetting tbh, I'll steer clear in future. Take care mate.
