We might not be top of the league but for anyone looking at how far we've come in a short space of time, consider the form and fortunes of some players from our recent history. Some had a big part to play in doing the root and getting out of League 1 at the first attempt - who knows what would have happened if we didn't manage that.

    - Tom Eaves at Rotherham: 20 games, no goals last season. 5 games, no goals this season

    - Tyler Smith at Bradford (League 2): 15 games, no goals, no assists

    - Dan Crowley at Notts County (League 2): seems to have found his level with 7 goals and 3 assists in 16 games

    - Josh Magennis not setting the world alight with Wigan in League 1. 3 goals last season, 1 goal in 11 games this season

    - James Scott at Exeter

Wasn't sure Will Keane would fulfill his potential but to be fair he's been a late bloomer, had a career at this level and started picking up international caps at 30.

He's going to have to raise some eyebrows between now and his next contract.

26-28 should be his absolute prime.

I see Tyler Smith scored a hattrick last night on this EFL trophy. But fair point you make.

I’d say Crowley’s stars suggest he is playing a bit below his level actually

James Scott isn't pulling up any trees at Exeter either. No real surprise though.

When you see the likes of Liam Delap compared to him when he was with us, they are poles apart.

It goes to show how much the game is about attitude and desire as much as talent. That kid had amazing talent, but absolutely no desire to work and a piss poor attitude on top... It's absolutely zero excuse, but I do wonder what would have happened if the freak injury hadn't have happened in training.

Unfortunately I think if he has a poor attitude and no desire, the injury probably hasn't changed much.

Something has happened along the way as before we signed him he was seen as a model pro at Motherwell. Could possibly be just to much to young for someone not mature enough to process it all.

Being young and being away from home coupled with being out with injury for a long period in a strange place can prey heavily on some people's minds. Boredom sets in, and that can lead to all sorts of mental issues. But there again his loan at Hibs didn't seem to improve things, so I guess only he will know why things didn't work out.

I feel like the second one at the start of LG1 season was the worse of the 2 in terms of his development. As getting regular minutes in a top side for the division could’ve helped kick him into gear again.

Since starting his senior career with Motherwell in 2017 he has scored 12 goals in total over 6 years, 3 of those for Hibs in one game, hardly prolific.
