It's was a good performance tonight, tempo spot on, worked forward with ease and without the handbrake on. The players seemed like they where playing without restrictions if that makes sense... hopefully it's the start of things to come and LR is learning & adapting.

    Roll on Saturday

    Very different proposition, Preston.

Matched Southampton tonight for shots, and goals with about 1/4 of posession.

I'd back us to get something though. Theyr'e not as good away.

Brilliant result, achieved through a performance similar to many recent games that we haven't won. It's just about taking chances at the right times. We wasted a few tonight as usual, but we got the crucial first goal and eventually killed them off with a second, whilst not giving away anything silly at the back. Sounds simple and it is, but these are the key margins with this team. It really isn't about 'tempo' or tactics as much as people want that to be the explanation when we lose. We play a similar game every week and we're generally successful in making some good chances and keeping the opposition to relatively few, but often we waste all or almost all of ours, they take one of theirs and we drop points. If we can more consistently finish chances we'll be in the promotion mix. I'd say tonight is the benchmark but to be honest we should've had four or five. Still work to do on that front but it was enough tonight.

If you look at the prediction thread pre season, most people had us at mid table or thereabouts. On the basis of that, presumably people were expecting us to struggle in key areas of the team, our play, tactics or whatever. We are ahead of those predictions now, playing good football at times, just inconsistent and frustrating to watch at times. It’s a work in progress. I’m struggling to understand why there is a lot of negativity. It seems that we are collectively disappointed that LR is doing better than we thought he would.

Re-read it and can see what he's saying now.
It was confusing (to me) as the sentence was talking about not winning enough, then he went back to games lost.
Irrespective, the home form needs to improve!

    Very good away win.
Great to get a clean sheet away from home.
    Looked comfortable for long spells.
Played it around nicely at times, especially from defence to midfield, and not so ponderous.

On the flip side, we still too often looked disjointed in attacking phases and were once again very wasteful up front (in terms of wasting promising positions and with actual attempts on or approaching goal). As someone eloquently posted, we won by virtue of a 'well taken gift' and then a wonderful bit of individual brilliance.

I know, most will say, so ****ing what, we won. True. But again as others have already said, much work & improvement to do yet, particularly in terms of our attacking play. As Ash would say ..... " don't let your ....... "

Hopefully we see progress at home on Saturday.

Starting to wonder if it's just that he doesn't 'look like a manager' to some who prefer their commentators to be caucasian middle aged and male.

Can't honestly see a rational explanation for it otherwise.

In terms of progress, results like tonight, the manner of them and the fact it's not particularly surprising, is a big indicator to me. Yes, we've always had the odd good away win at this level, but this season we're quite routinely going away and winning not just through smash and grab and a good defensive performance but by dominating the game. In the history of Hull City at this level that is a very rare thing, until this season.

I’ve been thinking similar for a while. Didn’t want to say in fear of backlash, but I can’t see any other explanation

What a stupid statement. And a plural like commentators doesn’t need an apostrophe.

Tonight”s performance and result pretty much ought to put this thread to bed. Listening to the radio (5 live I think) on the way back, one of their analysts pointed how how Liam is probably one of the most coveted managers in the division. Let’s hope we don’t drive him away with the usual Hull City moaning and whingeing.

Wouldn't say no to be fair, but I reckon she could do better than a fat 50 something, so it's not something I've thought of given that there's much better w*nk material both online and on the memory reel.

    (don't tell the missis)

We've had managers who've shown less than Liam who haven't been subject to the scrutiny he's had.

    I'm wondering why.

And the fact that you stuck your head up to call it stupid suggests to me that it probably isn't.

Though id love to be proved wrong...

Try actually supporting them at home the way the away support does then.

There's a reason I'd rather go away than home at the moment, and that goes back pre covid.

No way we'd have won L1 with that crowd on our backs.

Shouldn't have needed a thread in the first place.

It's a 'dogwhistle' Rosenior out thread in all but name and completely unwarranted.

An entirely premature precursor to an actual Rosenior out thread cos some seem so desperate to scrutinise and see him fail, even though it can't yet be called a Rosenior out thread - precisely because that would be ridiculous to the vast majority of rational thinking supporters.

It's a bit pathetic really. Reckon the OP has had his nose put out of joint somehow. Probably no longer getting the freelance work or info titbits..

It appears you've actually read next to **** all in this thread other than what you wanted to read - ie; between lines that largely aren't there.

It must be a tiny minority that would prefer Rosenior to leave - a fair amount of people seem to want to see improvement in the way we're playing - which we're starting to see.

If anything, the game tonight proves exactly what's been said in this thread prior. We played with so much more energy tonight and the ponderous play was minimal other than a few moments early in the second half that yet again heaped pressure on ourselves. We rode it out this time and got a deserved result.

Rosenior said they'd worked on our play over the international break and in the last two games you can see the difference clearly. Probably our best two performances of the season.

That being said - the goals tonight were another worldie and capitalising on a mistake. Good chances taken well, but again, we can't rely on them every week. Probably the only negative really, but when you're getting 3 points it's not a problem.

This was actually quite a sensible thread before now - but some are obviously determined to point score instead of celebrate. Personally I'd say what's pathetic is coming on after a much needed win, and in good fashion too, and relenting to post about (essentially through digging at others) how much better a supporter one is because they thought we've been playing to our maximum potential all along - despite most posters on this thread wanting exactly this sort of turnaround to happen.

What's the point in celebrating when as soon as we lose again (probably to a side with vastly superior resources in a tight game) the same old voices will be out?

We have the rest of the footballing community fawning over the job he's done here with the resources he's been given.

We have folk predicting a 12th or 14th finish that he's vastly outperforming, now expecting promotion in his first full season.

    That's frankly ****ing ridiculous.

And the only reason this thread hasn't descended into the bilious farce every other has is cos some sensible folk have contributed to it and provided a greater level of balance and perspective.

But this thread doesn't exist in isolation to others, nor does this forum exist on the Internet independently of other Internet gobshites.

There have been calls for his head here and elsewhere.

These are the melts I'm responding to.

And forgive me if I don't fail to correlate those posters with other attitudes I suspect have a bearing on their 'opinions'.

If women commentator's shouldn't be employed because their voice is 'too high pitched' or know nothing about the men's game because they have tits and a vagina, then how far actually is that away from a manager being born with the wrong skin tone?
