“LR hit the nail on the head in his post match; half our team are kids. The likes of Delap, Philogene, Greaves, Morton, Connolly and Allahyar, they're all young players - 10 of the lads that played today were under 25. “
Who signed them?
Not like no one on here said get some experienced heads in is it

And there’s no one better we could get in!!! WTF

What like Allsop? The player people questioned the signing of at all? We already have experience in players like Ingram, Tufan, Seri, Coyle and Christie, what we didn't have is much in the way of dynamic players, which was what he sought to and succeeded in bringing in. Last season we were too ponderous and slow, so we brought in two quick wingers, a midfielder on loan from Liverpool who could be a long term Seri replacement and a more attacking left back.

Who would you bring in that would be better?

Completely different game and performance of course but that had shades of Reading last season just before the World Cup break. One we didn't really deserve to lose but gave a goal away with the last kick. Iirc we went on a decent run after that so fingers crossed for a repeat.

The way to progress is to appoint good managers
I'm not saying Liam is necessarily a bad manager but there's more to success than simply not sacking managers

Which we have done. Given that we've spent the entirety of this season so far in the top half of the table, I'm not sure on what grounds people are saying he should go?

If you tried it you will realise what is wrong with your suggestion
There's no risk of it affecting your moderating duties because you simply would not be able to put them on ignore

I can put anyone on ignore, including other moderators, hence me being completely unaware of others not being able to do the same.

For me it’s horses for courses. Unless you’re the great Barcelona team, Real Madrid, Man City. You can’t count on just being better than everyone else every week and sometimes a certain way of setting up is going to work really well and other times it isn’t and I don’t see what’s so wrong about changing it up a bit when we’re struggling. Getting rid of Oscar was also a proper head scratcher as he gave us a totally different dimension with someone to aim at in the box.

I think this point got driven home with a pile driver today. 70 minutes we were clearly flagging, starting to struggle and a change of shape and intent to sit deep, regroup and attack in the counter might have seen us get some control of the game back. But we didn’t. We carried in with the same old **** and got progressively worse until we inevitably conceded.

Because Sulemana was having him on toast and he was on a yellow. He was a red card waiting to happen

Nah, players can adapt with bookings. Coyle was worse and just got booked himself.

At least he managed to flick his hair out his eyes about 16 times.

The coyle substitution killed us.

Enjoyed watching us today. Played some nice stuff.

Inexperience and possibly fatigue played a part in the loss.

Our substitutes were wrong and we lost the initiative when they came on. Connolly? mmmm. Their substitutes made a positive difference.

That's what happens when you play against a relegated side with all the cash and players who have way more experience. We have too many players at the development stage and that is what we will have to put up with until they develop (or leave).

Ah well, we matched a better team for 90 minutes. Was a good performance, play like that against most other sides in this division and we win. The reason we aren’t higher is because we haven’t been playing like that.

It really isn't. Our performance today was exactly like our other recent games. Really good at everything up to the edge of the area, and then time and time again ridiculously wasteful in the area. I'm sick of talking about it and sick of seeing it. It's becoming an absolute farce how consistently we waste good positions without even getting a shot off. It's different players every time and they're all good players.

Only difference between today and other games is that Southampton were good enough to control the final part of the game, pen us in and eventually get a winner which had started to look more and more likely. But even if that hadn't been the case, 1-1 would still have been frustrating with the amount of opportunities we had. I can't imagine what the root cause of it is but we have to get on top of it because at the moment all our good play is just wasted week after week.

High point was the Allsop saves
Low point was getting into good positions and then making the wrong decisiions in front of goal
I know it's not easy and when you see the replay there's very little time to decide what to do

Was an interesting game for me. I've recently been open about wanting increased tempo in getting the ball forwards. We did that really well today in the first half and we should have been ahead if not for an error at the back in letting them in. I was happy and pleasantly surprised to see that sort of change in mentality. If we play against other teams like we did in that first half we'll win more than we lose this season. We were winning second balls too and the whole team were moving forward as a unit.

The problem wasn't the subs today. They hardly got on the ball as our dynamic had already broken down. The problem was essentially the mentality shift at around 60 minutes. It began when we started ****ing around at the back again, inviting pressure onto ourselves and taking all the sting out of our game after Allsop among others started playing suicide passes firing the other team up and rattling ourselves in the process. From there on it just gradually went downhill and all cohesion in attack disappeared. It was like switching the confidence and the energy off. What also didn't help near the end in particular were Seri and Philogene 'pretending' to defend and leaving Coyle 3 on 1 over and over again. A few players turned into passengers in defense which we couldn't afford to carry. Another negative is the decision making. If Philogene plays Connolly through rather than drawing that free kick he's through on goal. If Delap squares it to Twine in the first half he's through on goal. If Delap shoots when he gets sight of goal he bags at least 2 today. If many of our players just pull the trigger we could have been long gone. I don't think these are Rosenior problems to be honest - I think we've adjusted the way were trying to play after the break, upped the tempo really well for the most part and there's a natural adjustment period which will come good if we stick with that 'get at them quickly' mentality that we went into it with today. It was purely reverting to the ponderous suicide stuff that started the downfall today - and a few players either gassing out or switching off at key moments.

Positives -
We looked better and upped the tempo.
Delap in the middle storms into their box, just needs to get his shots off.
Lokilo gave us something extra on the right.
Probably Twine's best game for us and he made good runs off the ball.
Vinagre gave us options going forwards and as a left back looked far more comfortable there than Coyle (no disrespect to Coyle).
Philogene is outstanding in attacking plays.
We can play. Just need to practice converting the chances, choosing to make that killer pass into space and most importantly shooting when you get sight or goal.

First half alone we had more chances on goal than we've had in 90 minutes in most of the games over the past month. Not the result we wanted, but one of our better performances this season to be honest. Just need to keep that mentality and desire for 90 minutes and improve the decision making when playing at a higher tempo.

You know what? Sack him then. Then six months later there'll be another issue and then the same cries and around and around we go.

I'm so tired of this moaning, I can see why Rosenior effectively told some fans to get a grip.

We aren't a £100m squad. We aren't, by any metric, a good bet for promotion. Most people said on here at the start of the season that we'd be in the top half and that would represent progress. We haven't been out of the top half yet all season. I said I think we'll be in with a shout for the top six and if we tighten up and play like we did today, we will be around that area. We're not going to get relegated, so why am I seeing the same sort of attitudes and posts I was seeing when we were getting battered 8-0 by Wigan before we were relegated?

It goes without saying that promotion is lovely, we've had one recently, albeit from a division we shouldn't have allowed ourselves to drop into anyway but that's another story. But I get the feeling that a lot of people's expectations marry up with that of the owners, who themselves speak about us having a top six budget and wanting to be in the top flight etc. We get all starry eyed as billionaires start investing and subconciously we start to think we're better than we are.

LR hit the nail on the head in his post match; half our team are kids. The likes of Delap, Philogene, Greaves, Morton, Connolly and Allahyar, they're all young players - 10 of the lads that played today were under 25. This lot have had a quarter of a season together and lost three games, they're only going to get better the more they play. You can see the improvement from last season, just watch any of our games under Rosenior from last year to this one.

You have to be patient. There isn't a magic fix or a special thing we can do as fans, we have to watch it game by game. We are adding to the quality of the squad over time and we have lads like Philogene, Seri and Tufan who are a level above; if we bring in a couple of players like that every window then we're going to go up sooner or later. If we finish 8th this season, I imagine everybody will be up in arms that we didn't get in the playoffs and LR is at fault for "all the draws".

Sacking managers isn't something we want to start doing, we've had two and a half seasons under Acun and we've had three different managers. It didn't work for Watford, who have spent miles more than we have, it certainly didn't work for Wednesday, it didn't work for Cardiff and it won't work for us. The key is to make long term progress. If we don't finish top half this season by some distance, fine, LR goes, even he'll admit that wouldn't be good enough. But if we get a top ten finish, that tells me we're heading in the right direction with a squad of young, talented players, an owner that gives a **** and a manager who has embedded a playing style that the squad bought into.

We're not the big fish in this league anymore, we're also-rans at the moment, we're out of the spotlight and many would count that as a good thing. We've quietly gone about our transfer business and the likes of Delap and Philogene have made people sit up and take notice a bit. Teams aren't turning up and expecting to roll over us, we were toe to toe with Southampton today and the quality of their subs (Che Adams and Ryan Fraser?) were the difference. Not to say ours aren't quality but they didn't look match fit. Both looked like they needed an U21s game before this one.

Rooney's first home game is gonna have a big crowd drawn to St Andrews for a physical game, which is usually where we do well. We've seen a decent reaction to losses so far this season, I expect we'll see one Wednesday too. Not the time for easy outs or wild calls, because there isn't anybody better we could have at the moment, certainly anybody who would give as much of a **** as Rosey does.
It's a fair point you highlight from Roseniors post match regarding players ages.

Scratching my head as to why it's a valid reason when we lose at home but the same group of lads are praised for their markedly improved away results?

I thought we played really well today. Fully deserved 3 points, got none. Sometimes that’s football.

We had some great chances in the second half.

Can’t be arsed reading this thread further back. No doubt more of the usual bollocks being posted by the usual suspects.
I can summarise it for you - anything that goes wrong on the pitch is the fault of the manager, players have no responsibility for anything.
A view from a Southampton fan:
"Smash and grab win. Hull were better for a lot of the game, but for some reason they just stopped playing for the last 20 minutes."
What he failed to realise is Rosenior told them to stop playing for the last 20 minutes as he had a cunning plan, or something.
