What like Allsop? The player people questioned the signing of at all? We already have experience in players like Ingram, Tufan, Seri, Coyle and Christie, what we didn't have is much in the way of dynamic players, which was what he sought to and succeeded in bringing in. Last season we were too ponderous and slow, so we brought in two quick wingers, a midfielder on loan from Liverpool who could be a long term Seri replacement and a more attacking left back. Who would you bring in that would be better?
Completely different game and performance of course but that had shades of Reading last season just before the World Cup break. One we didn't really deserve to lose but gave a goal away with the last kick. Iirc we went on a decent run after that so fingers crossed for a repeat.
Which we have done. Given that we've spent the entirety of this season so far in the top half of the table, I'm not sure on what grounds people are saying he should go?
If you tried it you will realise what is wrong with your suggestion There's no risk of it affecting your moderating duties because you simply would not be able to put them on ignore
If we’re being at all critical of our transfer business in the summer, I think today was the ideal game to bring on Oscar to try and nick a winner.
I can put anyone on ignore, including other moderators, hence me being completely unaware of others not being able to do the same.
And just think, if we hadn’t of faced them until December the likelihood is we’d currently be sat in 17th with a negative goal difference talking about relegation.
I think this point got driven home with a pile driver today. 70 minutes we were clearly flagging, starting to struggle and a change of shape and intent to sit deep, regroup and attack in the counter might have seen us get some control of the game back. But we didn’t. We carried in with the same old **** and got progressively worse until we inevitably conceded.
Nah, players can adapt with bookings. Coyle was worse and just got booked himself. At least he managed to flick his hair out his eyes about 16 times. The coyle substitution killed us.
Not forgetting that two out of our three losses have been the last kick, and virtually the last kick of each match. If people don't see progress then I've no idea what they've been watching previously.
Enjoyed watching us today. Played some nice stuff. Inexperience and possibly fatigue played a part in the loss. Our substitutes were wrong and we lost the initiative when they came on. Connolly? mmmm. Their substitutes made a positive difference. That's what happens when you play against a relegated side with all the cash and players who have way more experience. We have too many players at the development stage and that is what we will have to put up with until they develop (or leave).
It really isn't. Our performance today was exactly like our other recent games. Really good at everything up to the edge of the area, and then time and time again ridiculously wasteful in the area. I'm sick of talking about it and sick of seeing it. It's becoming an absolute farce how consistently we waste good positions without even getting a shot off. It's different players every time and they're all good players. Only difference between today and other games is that Southampton were good enough to control the final part of the game, pen us in and eventually get a winner which had started to look more and more likely. But even if that hadn't been the case, 1-1 would still have been frustrating with the amount of opportunities we had. I can't imagine what the root cause of it is but we have to get on top of it because at the moment all our good play is just wasted week after week.
This whole ignore button chat gives me Handforth Parish Council vibes. Fancy a Zoom meeting to figure it all out?
High point was the Allsop saves Low point was getting into good positions and then making the wrong decisiions in front of goal I know it's not easy and when you see the replay there's very little time to decide what to do
Was an interesting game for me. I've recently been open about wanting increased tempo in getting the ball forwards. We did that really well today in the first half and we should have been ahead if not for an error at the back in letting them in. I was happy and pleasantly surprised to see that sort of change in mentality. If we play against other teams like we did in that first half we'll win more than we lose this season. We were winning second balls too and the whole team were moving forward as a unit. The problem wasn't the subs today. They hardly got on the ball as our dynamic had already broken down. The problem was essentially the mentality shift at around 60 minutes. It began when we started ****ing around at the back again, inviting pressure onto ourselves and taking all the sting out of our game after Allsop among others started playing suicide passes firing the other team up and rattling ourselves in the process. From there on it just gradually went downhill and all cohesion in attack disappeared. It was like switching the confidence and the energy off. What also didn't help near the end in particular were Seri and Philogene 'pretending' to defend and leaving Coyle 3 on 1 over and over again. A few players turned into passengers in defense which we couldn't afford to carry. Another negative is the decision making. If Philogene plays Connolly through rather than drawing that free kick he's through on goal. If Delap squares it to Twine in the first half he's through on goal. If Delap shoots when he gets sight of goal he bags at least 2 today. If many of our players just pull the trigger we could have been long gone. I don't think these are Rosenior problems to be honest - I think we've adjusted the way were trying to play after the break, upped the tempo really well for the most part and there's a natural adjustment period which will come good if we stick with that 'get at them quickly' mentality that we went into it with today. It was purely reverting to the ponderous suicide stuff that started the downfall today - and a few players either gassing out or switching off at key moments. Positives - We looked better and upped the tempo. Delap in the middle storms into their box, just needs to get his shots off. Lokilo gave us something extra on the right. Probably Twine's best game for us and he made good runs off the ball. Vinagre gave us options going forwards and as a left back looked far more comfortable there than Coyle (no disrespect to Coyle). Philogene is outstanding in attacking plays. We can play. Just need to practice converting the chances, choosing to make that killer pass into space and most importantly shooting when you get sight or goal. First half alone we had more chances on goal than we've had in 90 minutes in most of the games over the past month. Not the result we wanted, but one of our better performances this season to be honest. Just need to keep that mentality and desire for 90 minutes and improve the decision making when playing at a higher tempo.
It's a fair point you highlight from Roseniors post match regarding players ages. Scratching my head as to why it's a valid reason when we lose at home but the same group of lads are praised for their markedly improved away results?
I can summarise it for you - anything that goes wrong on the pitch is the fault of the manager, players have no responsibility for anything. A view from a Southampton fan: "Smash and grab win. Hull were better for a lot of the game, but for some reason they just stopped playing for the last 20 minutes." What he failed to realise is Rosenior told them to stop playing for the last 20 minutes as he had a cunning plan, or something.
