Never heard of them haha. I'll have a look on youtube for them in a second. Shame it didn't come off for them though, rarely get bands become big from round here!

Aye, it's 10 minutes on the bus. Go to college there so i'm there most days.

See I'm a bit a musical whore, love all types and think all types have their merits and place!

Looking back on past generations of music with rose tinted spectacles is easy 'cause all those compilations 'best of 70s' etc. are cherry picked from a decade littered with absolute ****e just like any other decade.

In the 00's we've had early Arctic Monkeys (annoyingly arrogant now, but pre-fame they were awesome) Libertines, White Stripes, The Subways, Biffy Clyro, Feeder, Kings of Leon, The Killers, Muse, Razorlight, Snow Patrol (thinking as mainstream as possible) the next generation will look at ours and complain that theirs was ****e!

Watch Dazed n Confused...sums up what every generation goes through!

The way I heard this song was when Gene Simmons was creating that school rock band thing, his limo driver was part of Jilted John! Laughed at Kiss never having an English No.1!

    Feeder are a 90s band <ok>

Aye we do generally pick out the best from each decade, but during the 00s, I've never actually got into a 00s band as much as I should, I'll listen to them for a bit and then that's it. There have been some ok bands but I've never wanted to go back and listen to them after a couple of weeks, which isn't like Radiohead, The Smiths, Joy Division, Blur, Echo & the Bunnymen etc etc. Whilst the 00s has had its moments, they have been brief for me, which is why I generally prefer music from 70s/80s/90s. It may be different for other people, but that's what it's like for me <ok>

He's stupidly fast like, the fill at 1:35 is unreal! Were you not saying earlier that you don't like punk? I think it sounds very much like punk drumming just with double-pedals! NOFX - Herojuana, pretty much the same basic 4's beat but obviously with lots of half and quarter beats added in around it (NoFX drummer only uses the 1 pedal though, so sounds more basic).

Hate punk mate - 3 chords, horrible vocals and no solos - not my bag! And yes before you ask, I am a guitarist! :D

Fair enough, I'll give you feeder, but very grudgingly - they didn't really see much success until the start of the 00's!

As for preferring the older music, one of my best mate's is exactly the same...He loves the odd modern band (we were obsessed by The Arctic Monkeys, got bought up in the whole internet thing n went to see em a few times before they released any singles) but generally he's far more into anything that was made before he was born...The Doors especially!

I think music has a lot to do with social-circles as well...I always bounced between a few social groups in school (football lads, skaters etc.) and was brought up on a mix of Nirvana/Prodigy/Van Morrison/Joan Armatrading....So always picked up music off everyone.

Same at uni tbh...Most of my mates are what we would call 'spice boys' - they're all rugby players but think more Gavin Henson, less Martin Johnson...They listen to a lot of mainstream pop, the majority of it I think is gash, but there's always the odd song which is genuinely good!

Never got into them if I'm honest, unlike my Mum <laugh>

For all the Radiohead fans, the original name for them :) A song off their first demo tape.

    Haha ok.

the Doors are awesome, Jim Morrison is a legend!

I was like that, alright with most people, but generally developed my own music taste outside of school, especially in the last 2 years at school when i'd go to gigs a lot.

That's quite funny, never really thought Rugby players would be into music, there's one on my course right now who doesn't seem to like music which is quite odd, but each to their own.

Fair enough, I can't say I'd be massively into it, I like fairly mainstream/poppy bands (Less Than Jake, Real Big Fish, NoFX, Rancid) but I love all those bands! 3 chords n lacking solos maybe but I think all the singers are genuinely quality). Plus, my experiences with solos involve trying to reign the ****in guitarist in a bit so we can actually finish the song!

It's Northern Ireland mate, completely different to back home. EVERYONE plays rugby. Their 6th form rugby cup final gets shown live on TV! Rugby here is basically exactly like football back home except they all weigh twice as much!

Maybe its just me but i feel that your basic guitar, drums & keyboards bands (whether metal, indie or pop) haven't really given anything particularly new in the last 20 years or so and have largely played second fiddle to r&b, rap and dance. That is why i find it really hard to get excited by them, i usually listen to a band and think they sound just like some band i was listening to 25 years ago, only usually not as good. There's only a few bands in recent years that have done anything particularly original for me. Muse, Arcade Fire, Forward Russia, Beirut, System of a Down are a few but i'm struggling to think of any others off the top of my head.
