A money grabbing grifter married to an accountant in charge of donations from other people. What could possibly go wrong?
They're responsible for pushing people to start digging as a result of the money grabbing. It's tarnishing the whole thing now including Tom himself. Rumours going round, according to a mate, that Tom bought a company, asset stripped it and bought a villa in Spain. As I said earlier this'll make people think twice about giving in future.
I don't think that they went out to try and deliberately con money out of the money raised but somewhere along the line, they must have made a choice to say or think that they were entitled to their cut of what was one of the most successful causes to come along in this country and to raise a vast amount of money for a great cause.
why, when something like this begins (charity) is there always the one who believes they must be CEO and 'allow' themselves a big wage, many go for 6 figures, which takes away from the charity? the money is raised to help others who cannot help themselves yet there will be a few taking many millions per year, there are plenty of charities springing up lately and i bet every one has a group running it and getting rich, by all means have a decent living wage from it but how do 6 figure sums get justified?
On this occasion I feel you have it wrong. (I used to hold the same view, till I lost a short debate with a nice lady with a collection box. She put me right, but was very polite about it, and yes I paid for the lesson) I've picked out this quote--- The RNLI have refused Government support as it wishes to remain independent of Government interference. This is a quote the internet, and I can see where they are coming from. he Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is a charity in the UK and in the Republic of Ireland. It is primarily funded by legacies (65%) and donations (28%) 1. The charity does not accept government support to remain free from all interference from outside bureaucracy, which would almost inevitably end up with the charity being compromised in its aims 1. The RNLI is independent of government and does not want government funding, as it would dictate how the money had to be spent and could reduce or remove the funding at any time . I suppose it's hard to disagree with their point. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!
When I was 'put in my place' the dear lady was incredibly polite, she told me that it was part of her mission to 'educate' people with the same misconceptions that I had. She also asked that I pass the message on if I ever got the chance.
Real class act this family, especially the son-in-law, "Tom, get off your arse and get walking round the fkn garden, we need a new fitted kitchen!" Companies run by Captain Sir Tom Moore's son-in-law have gone under owing millions of pounds to the taxman and to small businesses. https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/captain-tom-moore-son-in-law-companies-bust-owing-millions/
"In an age when standards in life have plumbed fresh depths, when so much of our national and local government bureaucracy has seized up, and when so much of our built heritage is being neglected, the planning officers of Central Bedfordshire Council have set the nation a fine example of how to do the right thing. Working in conjunction with the Planning Inspectorate, a low-profile but high-quality arm of the state, they have ordered that the luxury spa complex unlawfully built by Captain Tom’s daughter and son-in-law on the old boy’s property must be torn down." https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/captain-tom-moore-daughter-spa-demolition-b2444267.html
I’ve heard this also from a ex para who was the brother of my ex, he lost a leg in the falklands and said he doesn’t have anything to do with them or accept any help from them because of it
Bill Cooksey from Newton Aycliffe who recently completed the Great North Run as a 102 year old, has passed away. Not a whiff of scandal from his family about money and spa's etc.
Just watching the 'Where did the money go' programme on Ch5 and wondering just how incredible Cpt Tom actually was. The amount of money raised was incredible, that's for sure ... ... but, in reality, he was just another of the nice sounding old fellas on a walking frame you see every day. I gave a tenner to one, at Edinburgh Waverley Station, selling poppies as I made my way to the match. They always say apples never fall far from the tree ... ... and, by extension, Tom's grandchildren are there backing up the mother. Sorry but I doubt Tom was so different.
Charities are the go to job for many entitled, often ex quango, middle class gravy train guzzlers. The love to proclaim how they " work for -----", neglecting to mention the cash that is rolling in. I remember David Milliband making a big thing about going to the US to work for a charity. He was paid a fortune. There is loads of this. I tip up. But I like small , local charities.
Go to the help for heroes web site and see how many accountants, lawyers, managers, assistant managers, office staff and then look at their salaries and we wonder why the heroes only get £15 from every £100 donated Now every morning there’s the new charity , just send £5000 to help our king penguins as the ice bergs are melting, I noticed they don’t tell you what they are going to do
Sorry but I just burst out laughing when I watched a charity advert this morning. Adopt a Elephant for just £3 a month
