    With you 100%.

In my case I ONLY donate to The Guide Dogs and The Salvation Army.

With both organisations I'm confident that whatever I give gets usefully used.

The point is that our government should provide a rescue service, as we're entirely surrounded by water, and not leave it to volunteers.

It's a vital service like the police, ambulance and fire brigade.

I used to collect for the RNLI from being 6 Years old until a couple of years ago following the TV series on at the time, having been asked too by a wonderful lady Called Marjory Dawson, one of the Bartrams of the shipbuilders , whom we became friends with and lived beside at Thornhill . I used to place the wooden chocks into the gutter so she could drive her car into the garage. She was the Patron of on the board of trustees for the Sunderland lifeboat station. A few years ago there were two high profile cases whereby the RNLI main hierarchy took umbridge with a few life boat volunteers ( remember that word, volunteers) for having the wrong type of tea mugs in the station down in the West of the country. During an inspection at the station , they suspended , then sacked the people (volunteers) for some reason that did not make sense. A bit like the National Trust did for lgbtqrsvpracaa and the hoo ha furore in 2020. Since then I've not donated to them after 60 years of collecting.....I only donate now to Help the Heroes and the RBL on poppy day. Here ends the rant.

I agree , but this government wouldn't keep it "in house", they would probably outsource it to some French company they had a vested interest in at huge expense to the taxpayer :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Your post eloquently supports my original point.

Giving away your money is an act of blind faith and trust.

Once that's gone it's hard to rebuild it ...

... what Tom's daughter has done will make people think twice and wonder who counted the cash.

My dad was a seaman during ww2. One night when their ship was moored somewhere in France, he and his mate wandered too far from their ship, so they sought help from the Salvation Army. He told me the bastards refused to give them a bed for the night in one of their hostels. For years I refused to donate to the Sally Army. Then one night after we had had a drink, he admitted that they’d both been drunk. I’ve donated ever since.

Oh I totally agree with that, but I also think that should be the same with cancer patients, I’m sure whatever charities give, the government give the same amount less. A lose lose situation but I may be wrong. The trouble with not giving to these charities is people will just die.

I am not going to say this is definite but I think HTH is the worst for trousering the donations. That was the one that stopped me donating.

What the daughter has done with the "charity" will make for a canny 3 part drama on ITV. Con artists and fraudsters being caught out is an easy pitch for a TV show.

Everyone needs to watch the interview on YouTube with Pierce Morgan (TalkTV) , who championed the Captains family. Even he is , shall we say, disappointed with the daughter and her husband.

Reminds me of Donald and Salmon Pants tying themselves in knots to unsuccessfully justify the parachute payments, then playing the victim a la bus stop incident. Bullshitters defending the indefensible

Aye I found it and put it up bud. Utterly infuriating, the whole thing. She's full of ****e, the husbands there for damage control. They have hoodwinked the public to make money and been caught. There's alot of "deal with it" in there aswell. "Hindsight" being hoyed around like confetti. "We used our own money to build all of this", later in the interview "I can't afford to not work". Sitting there pretending to be thick as mince while trousering 500k. 18 grand to give out awards, hoying 2k in the collection pot that will be made back in tax right offs then probably added to via interest. Then "accepted" 85k a year to head up the foundation that she new nothing about apparently. Made alot of money for someone that had no idea how much they were going to get to head up the foundation, 500k on merch (books are merch)and paid for the building yet can't afford not to work? Can't answer a simple question between them of "Why don't you get rid of the pool"? Ironically the easiest question they could've answered was the one they kicked off about of where did you get the 500 grand from (books). Why did that get so touchy? Constantly and repeatedly neglected to notice they used the foundations name in any and all planning permissions?Absolutely full of ****e. Imo, they have done some low **** during all of this, but Ill close with what I believe qualifies in the "low as f**k list"is dragging a 14 year old kid onto the interview to pull at heart strings shows what kind of people they are. Not sure how old the Son is, I'm assuming of adult age, but you f**kin protect children, you don't put them in the spotlight. F**kin wronguns..I hope the powers that be don't let this lay. They have been caught. Multiple businesses, one roping in 500k take home money yet can't afford to work? F**k off.

You know what bugs me more, they’ve took about £2 million out of the £40 million, so about 5%, the other big charities are taking 85% and nothing is done about the bastards why are they not on the fat gets show?
