We're being linked with Kalvin Phillips this morning and yet every game I've seen them play in makes me think Longstaff is a better player. I'd have him though and suspect regular game time again would change him and he'd fit in Howes style.

Didn't watch the match but read he was poor.

He stood out.

As a player who shouldn't be anywhere near an England shirt. There's a reason he doesn't get a game at City.

He was lucky not to get sent off, which is why I assume Southgate made the change. He could easily have cost England if had been made to walk, he seemed to be on a one man self destruct mission the idiot. I've probably exaggerated but he was pissing me off.

1 decent season at leeds doesn't make a great player. Look at where the rest of the leeds lads have gone lol.

It all makes sense now why Milan got rid and why he's never really wanted to be at Newcastle.

Papers are talking about 7 to 12 months. It doesn't make much difference as 7 months gets to the end of this season anyway. If he has indeed bet on his own teams games - even if just for them to win when he wasn't playing - then he deserves what he gets. The rules are there for a reason. Not too worried from a footballing point of view, he'll be back and it's probably the only position we're ok in anyway. I can see him playing in the meantime - like every other player I can think of under these circumstances - unless his heads not in the right place.

From a footballing point of view it's better than an injury as he can train with the team in the meantime. I could try and point out he was only 21 at the suggested time of the betting but that's comfortably old enough to know it's illegal and take responsibility for the outcomes. I'm, not happy about it all but given what some footballers have been up to in recent seasons it very much could be worse I guess.

He might not be able to train throughout the ban. Toney was banned from any football activity for the first period iirc.

True. At least he didn't rape somebody.

A year is a long time out of the game, you never know if they'll ever be fully that same player, again. You'll be fine, regardless. You have the cash to go out and buy another player, in January.

can they not train in isolation. Away from the club at least? Very strange to ban someone from their living/profession.
