Absolutely correct. No need to eat pretend meat. And actually there is nothing wrong with Tofu although you have toTart it up to make it taste good but I am eating less and less of that in favor of pulses and pea protein.

Well give some fact finding a whirl. I think that you will find some interesting facts re the impact of meat/milk etc on climate change. And its not just he farting its the energy used in producing meat etc, again it takes 80% of the energy used by agriculture to produce it.

I would accept you eat more volume of plant proteins than meat protein to get the same amino acids, but similarly I used to eat far more meat protein than I needed anyway so I’ve simply reduced the amount without thinking about it really.

    It was only a joke
You’d said no one had mentioned veganism on this thread but I already had a while back.
Not in depth though so the ‘don’t bang on about it’ gang didn’t cancel me ;)
Been vegan nearly 5 years now and I’m more handsome, leaner and cleverer and a better lover, golfer and poker player. Probably

Struggling to think of anyone I've heard of having a 'protein deficiency, or anyone ever dying from lack of protein.
Conversely, unfortunately heard of many dying from heart related diseases and cancers, which we can nowadays take as read as being commonly linked to animal protein consumption (no, not all of course, but commonly).
2 of the most stupid questions asked to vegetarians or vegans - where do you get your protein from? where do you get your calcium from?

India has one of the highest levels of diabetes and resulting deaths/disabilities due to the replacement of protein food sources with carbohydrates (because of religious based vegetarian diets), which could be seen as protein deficiency.

Still? My teeth are all mine and I'm lucky enough to still have an NHS dentist. I have no comment to make on the claim that when I visit said dentist there's often an echo. :emoticon-0125-mmm:

    Major misrepresentation of the FACTS.
Yes, India, like China is experiencing a growing diabetes crisis (as we are along with the US, rest of Europe, etc).
But, first off, India is not predominantly vegetarian. Even among Hindus. It's a myth. Estimates set the figure nowadays at around 20% or less of the population.
Studies are putting the diabetes crisis there, like most other places, down to major rapid lifestyle changes (lack of exercise, fast food, stress, lack of sleep, etc) and the pace of mass urbanization (moving away from rural life and ways of eating).
That is, a move to **** lifestyles with **** diets.
Nothing whatsoever to do with vegetarians & vegans thinking "oooh, where am I going to get my protein from"'!!

When I was there, meat consumption was very low compared to Europe. There was clear replacement of food calories from meat/protein with seed oils and low quality carbohydrate. Many would benefit healthwise from introducing meat and more protein into their diet. I can't comment on China as haven't been there.

    <laugh> What utter nonsense.
Diabetes has increased in recent years due to more inactive lifestyles, more industrialisation & much more eating out, particularly fast foods...like at McDonalds who are rapidly expanding there.
I couldn't care less what people eat, I only eat plants, but happily cook meat for those who want it, but to suggest India's diabetes levels are due to them being protein deficient because of vegetarian diets is beyond laughable.

    Aye
I was thinking of that as fast food, but you're right the vast increase in recent years of sugary drinks consumed in India will drive diabetes

...unless Heim is right and its because they all eat too many vegetables...<doh>

No, you're misrepresenting or confusing what I wrote. I wrote the increase in diabetes is due to the over consumption of carbohydrates at the expense of protein.

You understand that sugar is carbohydrate and sugary drinks are carbohydrate, yes? So you're proving my point. Try drinking a pint of coke after a steak... you won't want to, because the protein fills you up and so doesn't trigger the appetite need to consume carbohydrates and reduces sugar craving. And this is why I wrote originally that for some, vegan diets are not good, because the reduced protein levels in the diet create a craving for carbohydrate, which can cause weight gain.

I know exactly what you wrote and meant and I think it’s nonsense.
The increase in diabetes is not because people are stopping eating meat and that’s making them eat / drink more carbohydrates
    It’s the exact opposite
Vegetarianism in India is decreasing, down from 33% to 26% since 2019, during that same period diabetes has increased.
So what you’re suggesting is the exact opposite of what is happening.
More Indians are eating meat & fish and more of them are diabetic
