I've got tomorrow off so I'll be getting a few hours kip tonight before getting up to watch the Vikings game. I'll probably end up going back to bed by 2am after the Eagles take a 20 point lead.
I will be recording it and watching Friday morning I think. Well as much as I can stomach anyway. The last time I did this we also played Leicester on a Friday night and I was working late so decided to watch the recording of the Vikings before watching the Saints game. Safe to say I didn’t bother watching Saints after the Vikings game
Lots to like about that half but turnovers costing us again. In hindsight JJ would have taken that ball out at the one yard line but you can't fault him for trying to score. I mean, that's his job. Just a good play by Eagles defence. Our defence has done a great job really, limiting them to one TD. If we can cut down the turnovers we can still win this.
Turnovers cost us again. This time though I can see plenty of positives. We probably should have beaten the Eagles on their own turf. Lots of what ifs there. Defence did a great job first half and understandably tired in the 2nd half with all the ball the Eagles had. 9 times out of 10 JJ doesn't fumble that ball or it goes out of bounds on the sideline. Either way, we keep the ball and most likely add 7 points. We cut the turnovers out and we're 2-0. But we proved we can play against a top team. Nowhere near as ugly as last season - Cousins had a very good game, him and Hockenson have a good understanding. Another big play from Addison - looks good as a rookie. Running game needs work though. I actually enjoyed watching that despite the result.
So not as bad as you (and everyone else) was expecting? Was always gonna be a tough ask, eagles are one of the top teams at the moment, which is annoying with their trash fans ... also this game sounds similar to the lions defeat at the eagles last season, so that's a good sign maybe, given how highly the lions are rated now. I may watch them on Sunday if they're playing in the early or mid evening window. On the brightside my fantasy team got 75 points from Cousins, Addison and Swift.[/QUOTE]
You mentioned how Vikings out yarded the Bucs by loads last week, but turnovers cost games, it’s that simple. Probably the better team in the first half despite the turnovers, but yeah not as bad as I thought it would be. Still 0-2 with a tough looking schedule coming.
Yeah with an overall point differential of -3 or something. Managed to win 11 one score games against (generally) not very good teams then when played anyone good got absolutely battered. The 2022 Vikings team probably the biggest frauds in NFL history being 13-4
It's still the basics that are costing us though. We wasted a great punt return that would have put us deep inside Eagles territory with a fumble. We missed out on 7 points with Jefferson fumbling. Plus the Eagles were able to tack on another 3 points before HT. Our performance was good overall but we wasted a huge opportunity here.
I meant the game against against the Eagles in isolation. They destroyed us last year. Not so this time.
Also the D-Line (predictably) is tragic. Eagles could just run the ball straight for 4-5 yards every time. Flores looks like he knows how to organise a good defence but just minimal talent to work with
It didn't help how long they were on the field though. First half we really stifled them. But if a defence is on the field for 2/3 of the time they're going to tire quickly.
Yeah, it doesn’t help. But aside from Hunter I don’t think any of the others start on a team with an even an above average D Line. There are loads of holes on the defence as we know. Also doesn’t help that the 2022 draft class so far has been one of the worst I can remember in terms of contribution. Cine and Booth the top two picks, and both defensive players, have barely played (Cine obviously had a bad injury last year). Ingram is ****. Asamoah is behind an undrafted player this year. Otemowo didn’t even make the team this year and the late round picks haven’t done much (not that you’d expect them to, but you’d hope they’d hit on someone with 5 picks in the last 3 rounds Akayleb Evans and to a lesser extent Jalen Nailor have been decent but that’s about it
TBH I would seriously consider offering Cousins to the Jets. They are in win now mode and Zach Wilson probably won't cut it for them. He would command multiple early round picks, including a first rounder. We would have to pay some of his salary in return but I think it would make sense for all parties. I can't see Cousins turning down the Jets if such a trade materialised.
No chance he would command multiple early picks. He’s out of contract this year and has won 1 playoff game his whole career. The Jets or Niners might over pay around the trade deadline if things aren’t working out with Wilson/Purdy but it wont be a first round pick
