He got a lot right this window to be fair to him.

I do wonder if his line about us not offering him a wage increase is in comparison to his existing contract or his existing offer.

If its in comparison to his existing contract then you couldn't blame him for not accepting it frankly. Even if he was paid decent, he's very clearly increased in value to us since his last deal was signed and should be rewarded as such.

I find it hard to believe the club would be daft enough to try and get away with that

I do think Roberts will sign a new deal. I just think before he does we will have a story over the next 2 weeks from Fishpaste saying he's rejected this one, and then another one 2 weeks later saying we have increased terms , before its signed.

Get the impression the source is the agent and that this news story is to show the fans that both sides want a deal but the deal on the table is silly. Just a hunch.

Fishpaste wont be making it up, and like I say he's got a lot right this window just gone. Even stuff we didnt want to believe

Can't see the club trying to get him to sign an extension with no extra wages at all!

Unless he is already at the wage cap rhe club have imposed!

Interesting that he’s saying it’s the first offer we’ve put on the table considering people thought it was almost done a month or so back.

Unless I was 30+ I would genuinely find a contract offer that didnt increase my salary to be more insulting than not getting one at all.

I’m sorry like but if that’s right then that is an insult to Roberts

The lad is playing regular , he has a smile on his face (most times), he is a valued team player and loved by the crowd and if he is happy and settled and playing ,getting a decent wage, what more can a lad who wants to play football want.? The grass is not always greener on the otherside..

What I will say though is its definitely not clickbait. If it was clickbait he'd have tweeted "Sunderland unwilling to increase Roberts wages" or something like that.

Instead the tweet is a positive one and you then have to read the story for the thing that media companies would normally lead with for clicks.

I hear ya but he'll be like the first professional footballer ever to do that for a club he's been at for 18 months like :D

All the things you listed are great but you also need to feel valued by your club. And saying "we want to keep you but can't pay you any more" doesn't scream like you're valued. Like I said I'd find it more insulting than no offer at all.

So I hope the devil is in the detail and actually the terms are better than suggested - for example same salary but increased bonuses. Even then its a risky kick in the teeth from a negotiation standpoint when we know he would get better elsewhere.

    Right about Rigg I'd say.

But the two worst things that can happen to a really promising young player like Chris are never getting a chance, and playing too much when he is still growing .

He'll get neither here. TM will give him a chance and give him a rest, which is exactly what he needs right now and for the next two or three years. Hopefully he and those around him see this too.

My problem with Fishpaste isn't the accuracy of his posts, it's his obvious grudge with the club ...

... there may be a few problems, as with any club, but he never seems to give the club any credit for the fabulous transformation.

Was reported weeks ago that his contract wouldn’t be looked at until the window closed. So yes is possibly the first offer.

Why am I seeing the same people who went into meltdown on deadline day now doing the exact same thing again?

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but Prehab said the reason the new deal wasn’t done a few weeks back was contract length, nothing to do with wages.

At no point in the article does it mention that contract add ons like goal bonuses or a promotion clauses aren’t being offered it just mentions the base wage not being increased.

Multiple first team players have signed new deals this year, did we just offer them the exact same terms as their previous deal?

So so so sick of parts of this fanbase. I’m getting to the point where I can’t look on social media because of the constant negative spin and I dread going to the match because of the abuse people give the players, even when we win. The club is in a great place but the fanbase has never been worse.

The same accusations of the club being tight and being ran on a shoestring are suddenly re-emerging despite so, so much evidence to the contrary in just the last 10days or so let alone all the evidence from the couple of years prior to that since KLD has come in.

he's had the offer on the table for weeks 3 year deal plus the option of another year

Clarke also had an offer on table where he would get his payrsie now instead of jan and then a new pay rise in jan worth a 5 year deal

    You are welcome.
I was told later, by a taxi driver, that the Krays owned a similar cellar club in Soho and they used to let tramps and homeless people sleep there after 3 a.m. and they would give the Krays tit-bits of information. How true that was I’ve no idea. At the time I hadn’t even heard of the Krays.

My old dentist, in Nice, used to do the teeth for the Krays ...

... they never paid him but said if he ever needed 'someone sorting out' he only had to ask.

He was a mild mannered dentist without an enemy in the world <laugh>
