Disgusting display of international unity at the Last Night of the Proms, with EU flags being waved all over the place. This is supposed to be a celebration of British imperialism for ****'s sake!

I noticed that. Traitors! And they had a yank woman conducting. Disgraceful.

Had a brainwave about your actual representative democracy while walking the dog. If I live until the national average age (81) and assume that there will be a general election every 4 years on average there should be about 14/15 elections I would be eligible to vote in throughout my life. Let’s say the voting age should be 16 (if you can work and pay tax you can vote for some twat to pretend he/she understands your interests) and allocate everyone 15 general election votes when reaching the age of 16 to use throughout their life, at will. If you want to use all 15 on one election, your call, but you can never vote again if you do. Perhaps you could transfer your votes to someone who gives a toss if you don’t or even sell them. Why not, the people we vote for are transparently also for sale.

Might have the advantage of people using their votes when they are young, angry and engaged, disenfranchising senile change fearing old gits.

That seems a bit too bonkers, but I'd be all for some kind of vote weighting according to age, especially in referendums affecting the rest of people's lives (!). Most people I know haven't got wiser with age, they've just got more entrenched in the dumb nasty views they always had, or worse (in my view), have abandoned their youthful liberal tendencies and become all 'anti-woke', whatever that's supposed to mean. My pub discussions - with people I still regard as my friends, but often think I don't really like very much (where am I going to go to make new friends?) - seem to get ever more heated.

Beware old chum…….you’ll have to keep some friends on your side, otherwise who is gonna change your Tenna pants when you end up bedbound in your living room, with only a 15 min visit from a disinterested carer who gets paid 29p an hour to keep you company all day

Fair enough, drink has been taken. I do think the western concept of representative democracy needs a shake up though,

I thought it all fitted in perfectly with the new 'losers' theme of the Proms. We lost the Empire too.

You could always move abroad, as you clearly hate it here, along with most of the people you call your friends.
Says everything about you rather than your friends.
Maybe you and Stan could run away together?

You had several decades to move out of the dastardly EU that had no negative impact on your life whatsoever.

If it had no impact, what the **** were we doing in that political union anyway, paying massive annual service fees and giving away parliamentary decision-making?

I said it had no negative impact on Col. I’m sure he’s capable of explaining how it did in reality in his own words.

Thanks for you interest, but I feel it's my duty to stay here and continue the struggle. It's important to tell people with nasty views that they really are nasty. My close friends would admit that I've been influential in tempering some of their more unpleasant attitudes.

This sounds like the "Be Kind" bollocks of the Hard Left, who then send out truly vile, personal messages against anyone who disagrees with them, including to young women.

Racism is nasty, but wanting to maintain a country's culture is not

Extreme nationalism is nasty, but patriotism and pride on one's country is not, otherwise every country in the world wouldn't subscribe to it.

Imperialism is nasty, but being ruled by a national government that is accountable to its electorate and not by unnamed bureaucrats in another country, is not

I do feel you'd be a lot happier living somewhere on Continental Europe. You could try France and see how liberal they are

Those sound like justifications for racism.

Touching that you and Col want me to be happier, but I'm quite content here thank you very much.
