Rene Magritte?

On holidays..According to a chap who just got back, Turkey is becoming right expensive...Used to £40 for a evening meal for him, his missus and two nippers..
Now £100!!!! Alas, City membership cards are NOT accepted.

Bought an original limited edition Kandinsky woodcut at auction in '74. Some of his paintings have gone for millions in the last few years... I should get it appraised again !

I once nearly bought a Damien Hirst painting (before he was really famous), but my missus nagged me out of it, she said 'you can't pay £500 for that, it's just some dots, get me a canvas and I'll paint you one'. It's worth £45k now and she she never did paint me one. <doh>

if anyone finds a wacky clock shop in florence, please let me know. i visited about 20 years ago on a cruise stop off but considered my chances of getting one of the amazing clocks home unscathed to be approximately nil. at the time i hoped there'd be some uk company importing them, but couldn't find anything when i got back. the clocks on sale included the kind of things dali might have painted, if i'd had the money and space, i'd've happily bought every clock in the shop
Have you tried

Yeah. I'd do that.. It might be worth say a championship striker..

This Mondrian picture had been hanging in this posh gallery, somewhere for ages...years....then some bright spark said it was upside down..
Just goes to show you that some of these galleries don't have a scobby-do.

We did a guided tour on a Wednesday morning when the Pope was giving his address. Went straight to the front of the queue.

The Vatican was very quiet and the Sistine Chapel likewise.

If you’re not bothered about seeing the Pope it’s with considering. As we left( the Pope had said his bit and had done one) the queue to get in was ridiculous.
Somewhat ironically in light of that the first time we went, which was probably June 96 or thereabouts, when we came out again there were maybe 30 or 40 people milling about in the main square including us, when John Paul II just wandered out. It looked like he was practicing something for his next address then realised that there were people there so he sort of half waved / half did that blessing gesture and went back in.

We were quite chuffed to see him, but the people for whom being there at all was clearly something special were absolutely blown away. Dropping to their knees, crossing themselves, all that. Quite odd, but not in a bad way, and the sort of thing that stays with you.
