A lot of budding Cliff Michelemores on here, banging on about ruins, when you’ve seen one tossin’ ruin you’ve seen them all
You do know it’s just suffered the worst floods in 50 years, yes? Flights were suspended too. Might be worth double-checking everything is ok where you’re going.
Yesterday they were saying all flights out of Skiathos were cancelled for 7 days I think https://x.com/kashifnimrah/status/1699521775074189544?s=46&t=DAxwWj15XaMBwCrrY9gKFQ
We dodged a bullet there, we were looking at going next week.Having said that we were looking at pretty much anywhere within four hours, and have ended up in a lodge near Skegness! it is something we haven’t done before though and have hopefully got lucky with the weather. Oh and it is on a golf course. With the chaos at airports plus heatwaves, flooding etc, we’re opting for some winter sun instead.
We stayed in Pefkos in 2020. Visited Rhodes town. It is a lovely island. I hope it hasn’t been spoilt by the recent fires. I remained on the fb page of the hotel we stayed at, and they had to evacuate at one point. Edit: Actually, just checked as I remembered it was a World Cup year, it was 2018. Where the hell did that go?
Rene Magritte? On holidays..According to a chap who just got back, Turkey is becoming right expensive...Used to £40 for a evening meal for him, his missus and two nippers.. Now £100!!!! Alas, City membership cards are NOT accepted.
We flew in last Monday. We were on the last ferry out of Skiathos. We are on Alonissos which has been ok in comparison. We only booked on Monday last week when the forecasts showed 30+ degrees and sun everyday. That changed on Saturday. We haven't seen the sun for more than thirty minutes in total. Skiathos had been deluged. Some places in the area had 30 inches of rain on Monday. Skiathos was hit by 7000 lightning bolts on Monday night and was placed under curfew. No traffic was allowed and everyone had to stay indoors. We have been very lucky. We have been able to do walks we couldn't attempt in the heat. The rain has been mostly at night.
