This is part of the pre match interview on BBC but just wanted to point out his reaction to the name change.

I had started to like Pardew, but this kinda annoys me that he's not staying quiet on the issue and just managing the team.

I haven't seen the interview, can't get it to work for some reason. But surely if it's an interview that means he was asked about the renaming. He can either say "Sorry, no comment" and have a bunch of speculation over his opinion, or just answer the damn question and get the issue buried.
Good that he went for the latter.

He would've got mega bonus points from me had he quoted 'a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet'. Pards is cool.

unfortunately for him he can't say he agree's with it as it will go against the fan's but if he say's it's wrong he's openly criticizing his employers like I've said before he's stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Seriously, are we having a pop at him over this? I tell you what, how about from now on you go into work and have a go at the CEO (or equivalent) of your company everyone they do something you disagree with. The see how long you stay in the job. I am all for loyalty etc but at the end of the day it is his employer and we know their track record. Pardew has steadied the ship and he should just get on with focusing on the match on Saturday, not worrying about the politics.

    This.

It's a diplomatic answer that you would expect to hear from any manager. He's not exactly going to say "It's a shocking decision. What was Derek and Mike thinking?".

This is quite funny seeing as it's a year late and at least Pards said they would only meet after the game. It's dumb mind games and very sad indeed that Man City/De Jong have to resort to it.

Here we go, he was asked about the renaming and when he gives an honest answer he's a puppet again, it's pathetic. What do you expect him to do? He's working for the most difficult owner in the country and by some of these comments, the most difficult fans.

Nothing wrong with what he said IMO, said he understood the fans reaction but provided his own opinion on the subject aswell, now thats that dead and buried.

Plus he's correct. His job is to manage the team which he's doing very well. The crowd staying behind him and the team is important to carry that on, the row over the stadium is nothing to do with him.

I don't think he can win with some people, he should be judged on how the team does, so for me he's a success.

Only two people here have called him a puppet, by no means 'all'.

Yes, poorly worded by me. Hate that some people will just jump on the bandwagon over nothing though.

I'm not having a pop, I just don't see why he couldn't just say nothing and concentrated on talking about the upcoming match like you pointed out.

Totally agree. The guy has done an excellent job and is completely stuck in the middle when it comes to questions like that, he simply can't win. I'd rather he said things like that and kept his job so he can keep us going strong.
