I wonder how many other teams in The CHAMPIONSHIP, would love to sign players like Holgate & Fraser?
I’d suggest more than half - potentially all the way up to 21. As starters. Probably all as backups. I’m excluding the other relegated teams. The other challengers from last year have largely been gutted it seems. At least of their main attackers

Yes, because our squad is still massive.
So we’re in agreement then <laugh> Seriously tho, there is an obvious tact here which SR have to drive / follow. Everyone’s for sale at a reasonable & realistic SR price. I’ve maintained all along their “MO” is just that & to replace with / invest in youngish £10-12m talent eg Charles. Hopefully it’ll be enough to keep us in a top 6 place & an exciting season. Not sure it’ll be enough tho if Che goes & that’s my biggest worry.

Was there a rumour about Fraser earlier this summer, or have I dreamt that? Even if there was, this has come a bit out the blue. Don't think it's a bad signing, but I'd be disappointed if he's coming in because either Tella or Sulemana are off.

Holgate will probably be solid at this level, but can't see Wood and Johnson also coming in now.
Yes there was, the consensus was that Fraser has an attitude problem which is why he’s been training away from the Newcastle first team squad. Could be a big gamble.

Exactly. A “fifth choice winger and an Everton reject” wouldn’t be exciting if we were in the Premier League, I agree. But as loans to help us get back there (who we can then send back), they feel like eminently sensible additions.

There are lots of justified complaints about our squad being bloated with dross. Loans help that as they will be gone. I think most agree that we won’t actually want these two if we get promoted. And if we don’t they haven’t done their job anyway

The only conclusion we can draw from these transfers is that we are in a much worse financial position than many of the more positive posters would like to admit

No it isn’t. Not least because even 50% of Holgate’s wages would make him one of the top earners in the division
