But Wood is only 21. Very young for a CB. Should be able to eliminate those brainfarts with more experience.
Yep, was just about to add that. Let's face it, 10m isn't all that much, and we'll be able to sell him on even if he is average.
If he wasn’t prone to brain farts he would never be playing for them. I think we need to take fan comments with a massive pinch of salt.
Yep. Also, he might have been hindered by players around him at Swansea. For example, a few times I saw his CB partner referred to as Ben 'Calamity' Cabango. Lol.
A couple of the strikers playing in Scotland that we have been linked with are still involved in europa qualifying - right up to the day before the deadline I wonder whether there will be movement after those matches especially if they don’t qualify. And I am assuming more that one of them comes in for the squad in addition to Che staying (or a slightly higher profile replacement if he goes) with Onuachu and Mara both leaving (likely out on loan) late on
One is a goal scorer who scored a lot of goals. You will always be gutted to lose one Look at the various saints threads - there are daily mini meltdowns at the prospect of losing a striker who doesn’t score a lot of goals (albeit seems to have the potential to in this division).
Have a subscription but can’t find this article, where is it? Searched by teams player name and author
Yeah, I mean it seems RM is of the thinking that we don't need Piroe if we have Che (at a guess). Which would lead me to think he believes Piroe isn't (much) better than Che/Adarma, which may well be the case. Not seen enough of him.
This whole Che-Adams-can't-score-goals is such a myth. The two seasons before last - so, 20/21 & 21/22, he was more or less averaging a goal every three games, and that's without being the penalty taker.
Piroe’s first season in the championship has numbers that match the season Che had that prompted premier league interest. Yet there wasn’t last season either in the summer or january. Maybe due to two years or 18 month on the contract at that point but I distinctly remember last summer clubs being desperate for a striker. I think nearly 10 of them. And that is not even counting top end championship clubs / newly relegated teams. But unlike with Adams there was no movement. It also seems like both have been available for a similar price this summer and there has been no Prem interest in Piroe. Indeed Piroe seems like he would have been cheaper and probably lower wages. Che is apparently Premier league “proven”. But proven to have a best season of 1 in 4 as a second striker when most teams still play only one so won’t be playing someone like Ings (or even close) up with him. And he is still seemingly preferred Perhaps there is just something that football people see that not all of us necessarily do (about both) beyond just the numbers Also it has been noted that Martin has compared Piroe to Armstrong and not Che. Perhaps he was only ever the target if Armstrong had moved and he didn’t. And we have someone else in mind as either replacement of back up for Che - Stewart or Shankland I can only assume Stewart’s injury is bad enough that he’d fail a medical (not all injuries seem to result in this). Not that we should sign an injured player but if Che is staying and it is possible to get someone else in… Or maybe we have just been truly hamstrung by our wage bill and lack of movement out in the forward positions
A lot of it comes from the fact he has missed really big chances throughout his time with us. He just isn't good enough as a lone striker in the PL. In the championship however, he is more than good enough.
I had assumed this fell apart ages ago as it seemed like Paintsil was never interested. Perhaps he can go to Leeds and they use the money to take Paul anyway. Although it really wouldn’t make sense for him to reject us and accept Leeds I’m assuming it was just an issue on his end. It’s worded that both rejected but I thought Paul wanted to return
In his Saints PL career, he scored a goal every 313 minutes. While we've certainly had worse, that's not a particularly good return rate.
And how many clubs play with two up top in the premier league at the moment? It can’t be many. I watched a YouTube video about Luton where it was mentioned they do but specifically pointed out as being unusual
As I've said before. I don't believe they're asset stripping and selling up. I think however they will happily gut the team to recoup the last 2 transfer windows and towards the loan they made to the club. It doesn't matter what league we're in for their plan for the club. I.e buying teenage academy products to sell on (Charles) Or should we be really grateful for a free agent and a loan?
Yep, agree on that. He's missed some sitters for sure. Really seems to struggle with his composure and doesn't have that lethal instinct that makes a top striker. If he was designated pen-taker though, he'd have scored double figures in both the seasons I mentioned.
