I disagree about him not being better than Jesus. As a centre forward, Toney is better than him aerially, he's technically secure, he can play with his back to goal and he's a reliable finisher in the penalty box - something Jesus isn't. He'd be a welcome addition to the team. That being said, after watching his podcast with Steven Bartlett, he seems to be in denial about his gambling addiction and his bad habits will rub Arteta and co. up the wrong way, so I think it's a non-starter tbh.
Right now yes. I still want to see Eddie in a prolonged run of games though. He has 10 goals in his last 19 starts.
Na I think Jesus is massively under-rated purely because he's not a goalscorer. Technically he's superb, very good in a 1-2-1 , can pass, dribble, first touch is quality. He also defends from the front. I think Saka and Martinelli score more when he plays also.
I don't really think Eddie suits us - much in the same way Balogun does'nt. We have two young wide players both capable of hitting 20-30 goals in the coming Seasons so what we really need is a false 9 to facilitate them. Jesus is a good option for that. If I could choose another striker for the squad I would actually go with someone like Isak rather than a pure CF.
I’m not saying Jesus isn’t a better player, I rate him highly as an overall player. As a pure centre forward/ST though, I’d rather have Toney in my team than Jesus and I don’t think it’s that controversial.
Still can’t believe we’ve not been able to find any permanent buyers for KT. Baffling to me. He’s an excellent player, he just doesn’t suit us stylistically anymore.
I was convinced that Toon were going to snap him up for £30m-£40m In other defensive transfer news, City have let Laporte go to Saudi for just £27m. We'd have paid £35m at least but they ain't selling any more players to us
Reports tonight that we've agreed a fee with Monaco for Folarin Balogun in the region of €45m, which equates to £38.6m. I thought we'd have been able to have gotten a bit more for him, but unless we sell to a domestic rival, I'm guessing this is the best type of offer we've gotten. And with 7 days of the window left, we probably aren't willing to hedge our bets on a higher offer coming in.
Looks like he's destined for a move to Spain on loan. For what its worth, Sociedad are in the CL this season and the Basque Country is a beautiful part of Spain.
According to AFTV we're looking to move 6-7 players out and bring in 2 more I'm glad Balogun is going abroad because the last thing you want to see is a former player tearing it up in the PL So I'm guess out is : Tierney Balogun Holding ? Pepe Tavares Lokonga Cedric ? And in surely has to be another defender given Timber's injury and possibly cover for Saka ?
There's a guy I follow on Twitter (well, X now) called Darren Arsenal. His view is that, whilst the Balogun and Tierney departures create some space financially, we still need at least 2 more players out before we add to the squad. Figures from AST show that finances are still tighter than we've anticipated (as we'd expected more permanent departures by this point and they haven't materialised). He says, unless we get fees for more of our players, our safest bet is to bring someone in on loan or loan with an option/obligation to buy like we did with Raya to comply with FFP. I guess it'll depend on how many more departures follow KT and Balogun before we consider bringing another body in.
If Holding goes too, we need to bring in another body, especially when 2 of our current defensive options (Zinchenko and Tomi) are horribly injury prone.
Another loan?! He had a good year with Marseille last season, he’s 23, he’s on low wages and he’s experienced across Europe - why are we struggling to sell him?! This should have been an easy player to sell ffs
