Its difficult when players leave as we all have differing opinions regarding players, for me I am Not Embleton's biggest fan but I will also concede that I have not seen enough of him whilst Mowbray has been there to fully judge, However IMO I would rather he is moved on before Gooch. In reality I think we may see both eventually moved on.
I dont think these will be purely financial decisions but more likely decisions to help with squad improvement (in effect to create more space in the squad) to enable the young players like Rigg the opportunities that they need to progress. Football can seem like there is no sentiment at times but it really can be a bit cruel, but for every hard decision made good can come out of it too.
People say there is no room for sentiment in football but therew are still some players who come back to Sunderland to healthy applause from our fans. even a couple of weeks ago a young player scored his first goal of the season against us and refused to celebrate as a mark of respect to our club and its fans, think that went under the radar a bit and deserved a bit of respect from us even though it was hard to take at the time, and who can forget Thierry Henry on Sky bigging up the SAFC fans on derby day and saying he was pleased we won, as one of his greatest memories in football was getting a standing ovation from our fans when he was substituted after he destroyed us whilst playing at the SOL for Arsenal,

If nothing changes in the next 48 hours, TM's press conference on Thursday is going to be interesting ( or awkward ). After he said on Saturday that the next time we meet ( which is presumably Thursday's pre-Cov press conference ) he expected to have been working with a new striker for a few days. He might have some news by then, but if not, its going to get increasingly awkward for him to keep fielding these questions.

Spot on I feel for uncle Tony cos he’s only feeding the press what he’s been fed himself

But surely we're after more than one player ...
I hope so. I have no idea what we got for Lihadji but Speakman seemed happy with it. I just took from his statement that the fee came in as up front money in the bank they could immediately use on tfr fees and keep within a sustainable model. Whether we need Baath or Gooch to go to allow a second and third to come in, maybe, I dont know, but I doubt Speakman says what he did if we still needed to shift players before we can sign.

In all honesty mate, I think it's futile analysing what Speakman and Mowbray say.

Statements are often deliberately vague, sometimes purposely misleading, to throw off other clubs, put pressure on players to leave/stay/sign or whatever.

If you ever watch Deadline Day Sky, there's always stories of players agreeing deals only to be hijacked at the M6 services and signing for another club.

I'm strictly in the 'Que Sera' camp, these days, although I do enjoy the gossip tbh.

I think you are probably right, thinking about it. Bluff and counter bluff perhaps. I could never do either of their jobs as I would probably just give the game away first time I opened my mouth.

Questions are going to be asked, mainly by TM if he's been let down and made to look stupid. Initially this "new signing tomorrow" statement was last Thursday. It's getting a bit twitchy now

I think the issue is the gaps in our side. People are worried it will be striker fail 3.0. As soon as we’re stronger whinging gets like me will go quiet and so will Mowbray

The gap has narrowed significantly.

In the last window Stewart was months away from fitness, now it's weeks. We've brought in Dack which appears to be helping up front. And we've signed Hemir and Mayenda who may well be able to score in this team ... I couldn't say but neither can anyone else. The club must believe so.

Yes they're young but so is Amad who'd only ever played a dozen games when he arrived. He started very slowly, much quieter than Hemir, and plenty criticised him.

Every supporter, Speakman, Mowbray and Uncle Tom knows we need a striker and the club say they're trying to bring one in. It's just a case of whether you think they're lying or not.

I've no problem with people holding, or posting an opinion, but in this case it's no different to those who choose not to post it thrice daily.

Seems like Mogga has put the pressure on Speakman to deliver as promised. Don't think a striker can be guaranteed within the constraints of the model, so it will be interesting to see how both present the situation, and if they are both singing from the same hymn sheet.

I agree with Smug Que sera sera but I also understand why some fans are getting nervous. There no other club in England that does a nose dive like SAFC.
The worry about losing JC right at the end of the window without time to replace him.
The constant rumours of us holding out for 15m when most fans agree it should be no less than 20m for a young English player with 3 years left on contract and who went for 10m a few years ago as a kid.
The fans are asking questions about player of the season Batth being on the bench while O' Nien starts. Pritchard seemingly being forced out.
Then there is the striker situation. The manager situation. Because of the past alot of Sundland fans get nervous. It's all just rumours but that's my opinion anyway.

That’s a good point re: Amad’s slow start here and the unknown impact of Mayenda and Hemir. We might be* revelling in their goal scoring and great play in a few months time.

* missing word added so it makes sense

I don’t think they’re lying is just worried they won’t get anything sufficient over the line again. You can’t deny that recent history though I admire your positivity. FWIW I think they will this time, I don’t think they’re that stupid

Amad had to play there was no way he was coming here to sit on the bench, United would’ve just recalled him.

If Stewart stays fit then neither of those are going to make much of an impact. We have too many youngsters who can’t get on the pitch as it is. Ba looks like he just needs a run of games, you can see he’s got bags of talent but he’s never going to get that run whilst Clarke is here.

Mayenda and Hemir have been given five year contracts so the club must have immense faith in them, that's a lot of money to be paying out.

We see totally unknown young players signing for the likes of Brighton, Brentford, Chelsea, Man City, etc and think that's all fine.

But when it's us the players seem to be dismissed as 'ones for the future' only.

That would be more understandable if it wasn't for the rapid progress of similar players we've brought in.

And Tom Cannon is only 20 but apparently the answer to our problems.
