Aye he had a run in his younger days when he was reckless but I think it was Bruce told him to pack it in and he did. The media had pigeonholed him by then and didn't want to give up on it.

Carried on under O'Neill as well. Led the mutiny against Di Canio.

Ideal role model.

Did he? How do you know that?

He also played a big role under every manager we had, and we had a lot during his time here.
You won’t convince me he’d be anything but a great addition to the club.

It was well known locally and reported at the time.

His agent was Maggie Byrne. Remember the carry on when he finally left?

His time here is littered with issues that even on their own are 'if that doesn't tell you all you need to know' red flags.

Yes, he played well at times. Usually when there was a new manager to impress, and once that was done it was feet up time. Suspension or injury over Christmas and new year, lovely jubbly....

How quickly we forget. He wasn't a model pro in amongst all the drunks and halfwits we had over the years, he was the common denominator.

But he's changed this time, he'll be better....

Maybe you just only want to see the bad press? He’s one of my favorite players to play for Sunderland so maybe like you I only want to see the good in him?

if the club decide he’s worth a position that’s good enough for me as they do a lot of research into players and staff now.

not one to get into a hissy fit with the club but i honestly hope they are not simply waiting for the loan market to open up...by all means use it for 'extra cover' but with the obvious problems involved in getting strikers i would prefer to have at least two of our own rather than losing them again and the search starting over again.

Ffs...

@Phil__Smith
Says club are looking at loan market - deals that tend to happen towards the end of the window

We certainly dont look like a club with ambitious to build on last year and go for promotion. Its becoming more and more apparent that is not on our agenda.

As much as I like him Speakman needs to improve on his communication. Why say ‘immediate opportunities’ if 2 weeks later there’s no sign of anything? I remain calm on the situation but it’s clearly an issue

Folk would moan if he didnt say anything in the 1st place. He clearly thought something was close to happening thats why he said it but transfers change so quickly - especially this summer

Id rather he didnt say anything at all until after the window has closed

well mate, i just leave it to the club these days, i would of course be a happier fella if all deals were done and we all knew what we had to deal with...but there is always the chance that any late deals could fall flat at the last minute, nothing i can do to change anything so let's hope they have it all sorted, as i believe they have ;)
