No, not really. I didn’t complain about it when Smallwood was here. Nor when we had Cory Evans and Meyler in 12/13, nor when we had Livermore and Huddlestone. My only complaint was that Smallwood wasn’t good enough for a top-half Championship team which seemed to be the ambition when Acun first took over.

It’s no so much that we’ve never replaced Ashbee; we’ve never replaced Smallwood. People cling to Ashbee because he was the most iconic player in that position for us. When Smallwood left, we should’ve replaced him with someone better in that particular area in midfield. We didn’t. There was interest in Ndayishimiye and Özdemir last summer but we ended up with Ryan Woods who isn’t that type of midfielder. We got Simons on loan on deadline day but he barely played last season.

Spot on. So when people say "we never replaced Ashbee" it just comes off as obsessed.

Similar obsessions with someone you named your dog after a couple of years ago...

I agree though. Meyler was just as important and probably a more accomplished player, much as I loved Ash.

I know it’s massively outdated now, but I was listening to a podcast from Mark Crossley, and he was talking about Brian Clough. He said simply everyone knew their jobs, he liked a striker to hold it up and pass it out wide get in the box and head it in. Liked defenders to head it and kick it, etc.

That’s a very simplistic view of football, but the games far to complicated than it needs to be now. Obviously elite level it’s a different game, but Bruce and Brown didn’t go through their successful periods by over complicating it. I don’t want to make this into the usual Bruce and Brown talk but just two examples we may understand.

'NOOW THEN SH!T' OUSE...'

Under the cosh's finest pod, that one...

Slater does a lot of doing nothing and I don’t think he “does the things you don’t see” all that well either. I don’t know if people just think ball passes roughly to the man means good pass but the amount of passes he makes which are bobbling or hit behind a man which ruins the flow of a move but that’s the one thing that I don’t like about him above all else

What frustrates me the most is all these people bemoaning the stick LR's getting "after only 2 games".

That's exactly the point, it's not after 2 games, we were dull as dishwasher towards the end of last season, people used the excuse of injuries, and how a solid pre-season would sort us out. We were even duller in pre-season, but that was because the lads were still getting up to speed after their time off. We're now into the heat of the new season and we're still playing ****e football.

There can be no more excuses. LR has had MONTHS to figure this **** out, not 2 games.

What a clusterfuck.

"The heat of the new season" <laugh> We've had one league game. FFS mate.

You're right, the first couple of games don't count. We should just consider them friendlies. Shall we continue to do that until we win one? Good idea.

Get a grip. Who said they don't count?

Go take a statistics course and get back to me.

That 's not what I was referring to. Regardless of whether the players in question thought it was "too hard" and they're coming across as fannies, the concern lies more with what the players have been asked to do in terms of roles and responsibilities.

Which actually goes some way to answering my question earlier as to why they look so confused. We didn't play this kind of football last season under Rosenior, we played out from the back, but we kept the formation the same and there was a bit more fluidity in the formation. Tonight everybody looked terrified of moving out of position and it was only when Tufan, Covil and Coyle came on that we started moving about a bit. From what Rosie said earlier in pre season, it sounded like he wasn't going with a "set" formation, but that the players would be more fluid and interchange a lot more when we were out of possession. Our wingbacks after Coyle came on weren't even on the screen half the time, you could just see the two centre halves and that was with Ingram going for a walk.
It was like watching an over 60's walking football game.

Do you have this arrogant **** attitude in the real world? If so, how many times a week do you get punched???

Arrogant ****? Might want to check the tone of the person I'm responding to, I'm just responding in kind. If he seriously wants to think one game is enough to make a call on Rosenior then he needs to get a grip.

He literally makes the point that this has been going on for longer than just two games, and not only have you now reduced it to one game, but you've just done exactly what his post described people doing.

We have had one league game. The players still will be getting into the swing of things, the squad is not yet taken shape with less than half our incomings completed and several yet to depart. Yes the game against Norwich was dreadful but fine margins, if we’d somehow robbed a point that would have glossed over it for many.

The league cup game, forget about it. This happens every single season, I can’t believe people expected any different. It means **** all in the grand scheme of things.

If it’s looking bad at the end of October then maybe it can reasonably claimed that we’re going nowhere.

I don't disagree with this, but every other team is in the same boat by that logic, yet they don't look nearly as clueless as we do. I really hope this can be turned around, and soon. But I don't feel confident about it.

Because it hasn't been going on for longer than just two games. His entire point was that last season we had a large number of injuries, or do you forget that we lined up with Tufan up top for what, 6 games? He's literally saying that we had excuses last season and that this season is when Rosenior was expected to prove himself and he's made up his mind after ONE LEAGUE GAME. I have reduced it to one game because a League Cup game with a heavily rotated side is meaningless.

It literally has been going on for more than 1 game and you're proving my exact point; people always have a reason to excuse that fact; injuries, rustiness during pre-season, fitness, just plain unlucky.

Maybe it's 'cos "his Nan's from Hull".

Speaking to this season specifically, we deserved nothing from Norwich, a draw would have masked over the performance, but we were dross. I couldn't give a monkey's about a cup run, again, the performance is the most concerning thing. Doncaster played through us with ease and I have never seen anything like the Ingram debacle, given neither the coaching staff nor players correct it, for the entire game, to me, it points to deeper rooted problems in the squad. He'll have been taught how and when to punt it long from a young age, keepers don't just forget that ****. Oh wait, this is all because it was a heavily rotated team, right? My bad.
