The problem is when there is no press somebody might want to do things differently but the rest of the team is still preparing as if the opponents are pressing
there needs to be more discussion about what to do in different scenarios

    1. I get that but comparing every squad we've had since to the one he played in is really clinging to the past
    2. You say that as if the sides we've had since were inferior. Name the most like for like player playing in the Championship at the moment we could get to recapture those glory days? It just comes across like an old man staring wistfully at pictures of a girl he dated when he was 18.

We sorta had a player like him in Smallwood but he was never good enough for a top Championship team. We could’ve signed Ndayishimiye last summer but it never worked out.

There’s options available but it’s a question of if we can afford them and/or they want to come. There’s suggestions Rosenior has little pull for top Championship-quality players. Top of my list would be Ben Whiteman who is much better on the ball than Ash ever was. Second would Lewis Travis is more like Ashbee in that he’s a natural leader, very aggressive in midfield but quite average on the ball.

I guess this is somewhat my point; we've had players like that since then but no one is literally Ashbee incarnate.

A bunch of championship donkeys lose to an even bigger bunch of L2 donkeys. No surprise really.

If we lose to FC Massive, permission to wet the bed.

The stupidest part of it is that when he was here he was actually very unpopular. No one owns up to it now but the majority of City fans used to complain about him because he wasn't a fancy player. The exact same types who talk down Slater now would've hated Ashbee for the exact same reasons, but again they wouldn't admit to it now.

I keep hearing about how good Brighton and Man City are at our intended playing out from the back style.

I can safely say I've not watched either of them in years, not being a PL fanboy an all, so I don't really know what it is meant to look like when played well.

I might watch Burnley vs Man City on friday to see what the deal is. I'd rather watch Brighton but its Saturday. Any other teams that play it well?

In other news, I'm pretty sure I've been on record as saying anyone who boos their own team is a ****, but last night, it almost seemed justifiable. Almost.

You often see it, Ashbee was one as you say, Meyler was another and Smallwood to a less extent, they go about their work unnoticed by many, but players and some know their worth.

Bit confused by this talk about Vinagre. He looked the best player on the pitch in the half he played yesterday.

The difference to Ashbee was that he was a born leader, and was respected by his fellow pros at the club, when he laid into them they knew about it, we haven't had a like replacement for that type of midfield general since he went.

Funny you should mention Meyler...I saw him last night, pre-game, in the club shop...Shame we can't get hold of one of those flux capacitors from the BttF trilogy.

Going forward he was great, positioning defensively was questionable.

What you see with Man C and Brighton as players are more or less are constantly on the move to find space if they are in a ball receiving area. There are always options to pass too, but I guess that come down to the quality of player. Seri is our target for receiving the ball from the Goalkeeper mostly, watch him, he often has to make space for himself, and he is good at that, others need to learn to do the same.

I thought Simons did it well too in the first 10 minutes yesterday. So well in fact that Donny gave up on trying to press us, which is what gave us the weird spectacle of the rest of the game where Ingram was allowed to inch his way to the halfway line unchallenged.

I'm really impress generally with Simon's he is going to be a good player and well capable of taking over from Seri when the time comes.

He was out injured for four or five months, not really a surprise he's taking a while to get back to full fitness.
