I see shoplifters are to be jailed. Which will please a certain section of the electorate. Shame that the police don’t catch many, if any shoplifters. Like burglars (just about a zero detection rate in many places) and, ffs, rapists. You can legislate to torture and execute all criminals and keep the revenge merchants happy, but it’s an empty threat if none are caught and prosecuted. Zero deterrence effect.
The biggest shoplifters and burglars can be found seated in the House of Commons or the House of Lords, so it shouldn't be that hard to round up and incarcerate them all

Some might be radical Islamic clerics but if we are gonna be all for free speech then surely we have to take the rough with the smooth and no one should be “de banked”
