Better quality defenses in the championship made them less effective at this level though. It's something we should be looking to improve though. We have some technical players at the club you would think should be capable from dead balls.
Throw-ins high up the pitch aren't really an opportunity. It's awkward to get the ball down and moving from throw-in height when there are defenders all around. It's pretty normal for most teams to go backwards and then across the pitch to try and attack the other side whilst the defence is still getting across and organised.
On the topic of Elder, sort of, I said it was an error to let him go....then got shot down in flames by some of the eggheads on here...Hope they are right and I was wrong!! If so I'll put my hand up. on corners, its a real shame we can't bring on a special plays team like they do in the NFL.
Ours still leave a lot to be desired. You can't be offside from a throw in, so why (at the very least) do we never seem to try and stretch the play? If our CF - or any player were to take up a position near the by-line, it surely creates more space in the middle of the park for others to run into? The most frustrating throw -in I've ever seen was when we were 1-0 down in the last minute and instead of launching the ball into the box, we threw it backwards. I'm not saying we should always "aim for a big man" but it is a tactic we use too infrequently IMO.
Southgate learnt a lot when going to the Super Bowl and talking to NFL coaches about set plays. Its what made us such a threat at the 2018 World Cup. In this league were the margins from being a playoff team to a midtable team are so thin it amazes me as well there's not a focus on it more amongst the sport
So LR is happy with our options up top. Will Oscar avoiding missing half the season through injury and will Delap & Connolly improve the fact they don’t score goals. We shall see I guess.
He’s played in front of 75,000at Old Trafford but can he do it in front of 875,818,992,383 on a wet night in Owlerton?
Is it just me Or will we be lucky to finish top 10? I feel like we are 'weaker' up top and havent strengthened the midfield area Cant see how this lot gets us playoffs
We aren’t weaker up top but we’ve not yet strengthened. Connolly and Delap could hit the ground running or not at all. Both will be more available then Tetteh which is an improvement
Generally consistency does you quite well in the Championship. Amount of teams that churn their squads with loans etc. Plys window hasn't shut yet
We do stand near the byline, but the defenders know we can't be offside so they follow. This goes for all teams. There's no space at that end of the pitch so usually you're just aiming to get the ball down and under control, anything else is a bonus and if you successfully get it moved on to someone in a bit more space, even if they're further back down the pitch, that's not a bad job.
Love how they always call it a supercomputer. It'll be some pretty basic algorithm taking a few metrics as inputs, and could run on any old PC. I could knock up a Google Sheet on my phone that would do the same thing. Supercomputer ffs.
It needs a supercomputer to calculate the prediction because it takes a long time to compute because of all the time wasting by teams
Team looks shiete havnt signed anyone usefull other than possibly vinager at lb all others are random youngsters with around 5 total career goals our clinical striker connolly has 7 goals in 80 games. There are centerbacks with better goal ratios
