if we did sign him can only see it being a loan no way could we afford his wages on a permanent deal

That could definitely be the case. We look to be doing our permenant business early then I think the top end loans will come in a bit later in the window. We will need a couple out shortly to balance things off though.

I think there's the possibility of a permanent deal if the contract is right.

We've turned ourselves into an attractive place to be and Mowbray seems really well respected ...

... we just have to shake off the Sunderland we once were imo.

Why wouldn't people, who love playing good football, want to be here.

Cairney is in final year of contract so can’t see a loan

Nixon saying Batth to Blackburn is very unlikely now, and that Sunderland are still after a striker despite Mayenda coming in

I mean if somehow we got Cairney we are genuinely up there as one of the favourites. I believe he would make that much of a difference.

He would make a huge difference to us mate, he was outstanding against us for Fulham up here last season. If I remember right Mowbray spoke about him after the game about how good he was.

Another thing I took from it was when he said talks had been going on for 6 weeks yet there wasn't a sniff of it from any of the it's in all that time! Is this because it was a position that no one thought we were trying to fill as against all the obvious ones?

Exactly, it's a sale and Sunderland are a side that plays football.

If we offer a long contract with promotion clauses we can get him ...

... not everyone wants to drag their family out to a footballing nonentity in the Middle East.

I think we have done that already.

All the players that come are excited to be joining a club where they will get a chance to start or re-start their career. By all accounts the club is growing a reputation of being professional to deal.with in the transfer market and an excellent place for loan players to get some minutes and really kick on and again we are supposed to be professional to deal with in this manner. We are playing football that is noticed by other fans and the media and some of the goals the team scored last season Man City would be proud of!

It's all a far cry from the joke we were across the board!

(Quick disclaimer the reputation with other clubs in transfer market is things I have read in here and other places, I know one to confirm and no **** all for definite <laugh>)

A few years ago, I thought that throwing money at the team and stumbling up into the PL was great. Now I can see that way was doomed because the foundations were nearly non-existent.

We’re not signings superstars (or looking to sign them) but I’m over the moon with the way the club is gradually improving the team - along with the academy, data, scouting, etc. New players are thoroughly considered and researched - Dack and Mayenda look like two more clever signings.

Excellent strategy and execution. I get the feeling we’re only just getting going as well.

He’s currently u10 mate. Loves it and hopefully will carry on his journey. Good luck to your grandson, I know some of the shadow lads at 10s look very good.

That will be the same age group that he was training with the shadow squad until he was released. His best friend, Oliver, is still there but was moved up to the academy.
Went up one night to watch and there was some really good players - they all seemed to like it.
