You say ‘we are sunderland’ but what does that even mean? We’ve won **** all for 50 years. The last time we finished higher than Brentford did last season was 23 years ago. I’d take their ‘moment in the sun’ over everything I’ve experienced in my lifetime following Sunderland

Glad somebody else said it and put it more eloquently than I would have.

We as Sunderland fans in general do have an inflated view of how important being a "big club" is. Most of the footballers playing today have only been alive during a period where we've mostly been the butt of jokes. Its only recently we are being seen as having a plan and being an attractive proposition.

As an example, when Jobe was born (let alone started following football), Anthony Le Tallec was a Sunderland player. His entire personal memory of Sunderland has been since then.

Absolutely loved Dack when he played for us, but a couple of problems, when the late Justin Edinburgh praised him, he was correct, but that's over six+ years now, and the player has been out a considerable amount of times with injury since (long term). I'd happily take him back at the Gills, although probably not be able to afford his wages now, BUT his time at Blackburn hasn't seen them promoted, and I just fear at Sunderland he might not be what he once was, also he always needed the free role, if you try and pin him down, you take away his qualities. He can be a creator and a goal scorer, but if you try and pin him down to one, then he's probably not for you. He played in the same team as John Egan (Sheff Utd) under Edinburgh, and Egan has experienced time in the Prem and is back there again, I have to ask that little question in the back of mind, why did Brad never make it, he's always been the joker of the pack, so I wish him all the best wherever he goes.
Played his best football under Mowbray

I know what you’re saying but with all due respect they are Brentford

Historically a third tier club (at best). We are Sunderland

I know where you're coming from there, and I'm proud of the history of the club too, but unless you're about 100, or from the local area, then us being Sunderland just isn't all that. If you look at the last 5 years, we've been mainly a third tier club ourselves.

I can see both sides. We havent been much to write home about for a while on the pitch. That said if you look at what we could be then we can dream.

We have an unbelievable support. Home and Away. That counts and can make results easier to come by. We are a 1 club city with a massive catchment. Helps both support and academy players. On the academy Cat1 status is huge for us and will set us above other clubs with a 'similar model' but without that crown jewel to feed it. The AOL is a hell of a facility as well. That is all the ingredients you need to make a club a prospect for major success. The challenge is now creating the playing success. Massive upward trajectory in the last 2 season. If we do get ptomoted in the next couple of years then I suspect KLD and family and friends have the wealth to add that last bit of something to take us above the likes of Brentford. So I do see where people come from when we want Sunderland to be seen as having major potential. It might be 3 to 5 years away, but the ambition should be there for us all.

Burnley are trying to do things on the cheap again i see <doh>..

Burnley have had a £9m+extras bid rejected by Southampton for Nathan Tella.

Tella wants to play in the Premier League with Burnley after enjoying his spell here last season, but Southampton are holding out for between £15m & £20m

[Alan Nixon]

They’re not even being tight, they’re being down right cheeky.

Speakman and Co seem very good at bringing in wingers.... and quite a few other positions...

However a key position does seem to present difficulties.

Read an article a while back about how a french club revolutionised the way they did transfer targeting using data aiming to develop and make profits further down the line while growing their club. It might have been Lyon???
20 odd years ago - anyway the position they had least success with was centre forward for some reason. Overall highly successful though.

Bradley Dack, who some are writing off as too old is 3 years younger than my youngest child.....now that makes me feel really old TC :emoticon-0102-bigsm:emoticon-0102-bigsm
I hope nobody writes him off because of his age mind. We have done well with signing young players no doubt. But I would argue probably one of our best 2 or 3 signings has been Danny Baath. Pritch as well has had a huge impact. Dont get me wrong, I love watching the younguns do their stuff but the odd older lad, show what standards look like etc, go a long way to developing the young lads. I have a feeling we will enjoy Dack, fingers crossed.

i keep thinking of dack (no, not 'that' way) and i know i struggle with names these days but i seem to remember either him or someone remarkably similar looking being a complete pain in the @rse against us...if it his him i remember then i hope he has completey recovered from his injuries.

I don't think you'd have to be Alan Nixon to come to that conclusion! David Nixon Maybe:emoticon-0136-giggl

I think its a gamble but if he stays injury free then we have got a real bargain. Like you say Pritch has been a revelation and just remember he was run out of Hudderfield they though he was ****e. No argument a fit Bradley Dack is a very good addition to the squad.
