Yes we can all agree that having money is important but surely looking back at your career with no regrets is just as important. Take Harry Kane for example, Spurs could throw money at him to keep him but it seems that he would rather look back at what he won in his career. Jordan has basically won everthing in his career with Liverpool but will he still be part of the England squad if this move happens?

Go there and you should be nowhere near England. Playing exhibition matches every week is no preparation at all.

One year in Saudi, tax free would probably replicate his lifetime earnings.
Not that he's short of a few bob.

A two year deal would set him up with enough to buy out KLD <devil>

    Up to him.

But as I've said, as far as I'm concerned he can just go and get the money, and then keep quiet. No more holier than thou lectures, no more easy virtue signalling , no more feeling as if he's some sort of good guy who sets examples.

It has been said that it is hard for footballers to to " difficult" things in support of the normal causes mentioned. There is something in this perhaps, but if any of these players going there wants an idea of how to do a "difficult" thing, just have a look at Ramsey who was mentioned up the page.

Wonder if that's enough to put the Saudis off.

I reckon the Saudi Pro League is here to stay personally. Not saying I like the human rights record of the country, but we saw in the world cup they are fanatical about football in that country.

They have an ambition in 5 years time to have 100 of the worlds best footballers in that league. They are making a good start on that. They are likely to bid for a world cup and already have the infrastructure for it. They have had a professional league for a while now and they get good crowds and atmospheres, and have the concept of club rivalries. They have a very young population too and sport is really big for them. Maybe the govt motivations are dubious but it is happening, at pace, and to be honest I can see a time, not too far off, where the games will be on Sky Sports. I remember in the build up to the world cup when I seemed to be one of a small group openly looking forward to watching it. In the end a lot watched and enjoyed. I can see the same happening here in time. Ideally everybody would be like Rory Mcillroy and make a clear stance. That said football is the only truly global game so I sense a degree of inevitability about it.

You're probably right, money always wins in the end. I didn't watch a minute of the World Cup and I'll never watch a minute of a Saudi League even if it's twice as good as the champions league but that's my choice and there's no chance the majority will feel the same way.

They'll keep on pumping money into it, it will be a success and their goal of sportswashing their various atrocities will have been achieved. It's not like they're in it to turn a profit. That's the endgame.

well structured post. People enjoyed the world cup as they always do when the whistle blows. As for it being on sky in a few years, probably, but I dont watch Premier league on sky now so no chance would I be watching the "Pro league". If Henderson goes there he'll be just like every other player that's went there, with the same opinions viewed upon him. In this case, it isn't a case of "if you worked in sainsbury's and tesco offered you double the money" go to Saudi, this is different..The best player in the world turned around and basically said "nair, f**k that. If Henderson does go there,(totally his choice),he'll do a couple of seasons then probably wash up playing for us for a Swan song season. Football has turned into a rancid cesspool of **** over the past few years, and it'll not be getting any better in the years to come. I feel better now. lol

I watched the World Cup but was obviously against them being awarded it and also having to rearrange when it took place for them.

Can honestly say however that I’ll never watch the Saudi League. Other than the obvious sports washing it will be like the Scottish Premiership, few decent teams with top players but the rest mediocre.

Here’s hoping the Saudis get behind a super league and the top 6 **** off.

Yep,good post mate. I personally don't see much difference between this Saudi thing and the Premier League being set up with Sky money 30 years ago. All of a sudden the money attracted the best players in the world and I can't see how this is much different. The numbers are huge,I know, but so they were then to what we were used to.
