TBH it wasn't a bad strategy. Let Wood take the bowling on and when he gets out Stokes will take over.
Yeah I was fine with Wood and Woakes looking to take on the bowling. They can both bat, so asking them to just hang in there with Stokes would have been something of a waste. However, we do need to hang with Stokes now. And, unfortunately, I have zero faith in Robinson not doing something stupid. So that means we badly need Broad to repeat his innings from the previous test.
And the slogan for this summer continues to be: “Thank god for Ben Stokes!” A deficit of only 26 could only have been dreamt of when Bairstow and Moeen gave their wickets away.
All 10 wickets were caught. If that had been us, we'd have needed to create about 22 catching chances in order to take 10 wickets.
