To be fair, all Howden said was that it's above £7m, in response to someone asking whether it was. He didn't say how much higher. £7m total does sound a bit low to me so I'd hope it's a fair chunk higher.
Yeah, I don't know where this idea that Greaves became a back-up player this season came from. Ever since he got his chance in League 1, he's been one of the first names on the team sheet.
He started great under Rosenior as the inverted full back too. Lost it when Christie was injured as he essentially played as a winger whereas Coyle was more traditional
I had lunch with Harry Woods Dad yesterday (Harry hasn't signed his contract so the club have triggered his extension apparently) and AN Other club not mentioned was mentioned to me as a destination for JG.
Whilst it's disappointing to lose Greaves, I wouldn't say he's completely irreplaceable. I just hope we're clever with the replacement. When we sold KLP, his replacement was Sinik and look at how that turned out. Selling Greaves for £10 million+ and signing Eíran Cashin from Derby for a fraction of that would be very good business and allows us to spend elsewhere.
Name of the game for the majority of Champ clubs is to develop talent and reinvest to move forward. Yeah KLPs direct positional replacement was Sinik but the revenue was used elsewhere also, and we did finish the season in top 10 form (if the league started when Rosy did) so although the first managerial appointment was poor, I'm not buying into the idea that player recruitment has been at all disastrous as is the narrative some seem to be pushing.
Newcastle, Villa and Spurs have been mentioned as keeping tabs previously, but you'd expect him to have a fight on his hands to make an immediate impact at one of those clubs.
