I was a bit surprised to find myself quite so pleased by the news of Lyndon extending his contract. I suppose we have had a stream of bad results and bad news and this is a very welcome positive for a change; and the club deserves a pat on the back for having achieved it. I fully expected him to leave and whilst I'd like him to score more goals, his work rate is very valuable, both in attack and in defence. He seems to like the club and this may be a sign of some refreshing loyalty (and probably a decent pay rise, too). The longer contract now increases his potential transfer value and, if he'd have left, let's face it, we couldn't have afforded to get as good a replacement (unless our recruitment team stumbled across an unpolished diamond, an unlikely event if ever there was one). Hopefully, there is more good news to come...
Fully agree. A very pleasant surprise for me as well and congratulations to GA and the staff for obviously selling a good vision and strategy to Lyndon. Hopefully it will be a great mutual win-win: Lyndon will perform in the GA set-up and his stock will rise. This will allow us to sell, at the appropriate time and price, for Lyndon to move on a develop. Let’s hope that this is the first of many “good news”.
Sometimes a player has to take a few steps back to make a few strides forwards. Eze is a good example. Smyth may not be that class but maybe he has put the work in. As fans player of the year there must have been a good improvement - not here yet, so let’s see.
A serious question... Dykes resigns after Ferdinand goes as DoF? Maybe Les would not pay a wage increase to Dykes. Gareth has said...we need him.I want him, pull out stops. Tbh...to get some one like him ( Championship level player) we would have to pay a decent transfer and wages. So why not just invest in the wages side
OK, so Dykes puts in a shift, but how many times last season were many on here saying he's a clown after missing a sitter from 2 yards out ? Keeping helps the cause, but we still need to get in a proper goalscorer too !
He frustrated the **** out of me last year for turning easy opportunities into misses. That said I’m glad he’s here for the upcoming campaign - I don’t see how we could have afforded a decent replacement. But he has some work to do to improve his fortunes as a striker - that’s down to him and the coaching staff to get right. Can’t help feel we need a little poacher to help him out though. Hopefully (there’s that word hope again ) he will move forward a level and increase his value and popularity at the same time.
There is another take on LD signing. If the rumours are true that Beale wants him, the message is now that he'd have to pay serious money for him.
My son was wearing a QPR shirt at Glastonbury and was collared by a Scottish fella who wanted to talk to him about Dykes. The Sweaties love him.
Maybe our new kit should resemble the Scotland one, then Dykes can play like Gerd Muller every game !
Sam Field on the way out? https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/leeds-united-and-burnley-eyeing-move-for-qpr-player/
In all fairness Jeff, he's the one single player who has deserved more than what the club can offer. It's no surprise that he would be a wanted man. Massive loss to us if/when he goes and one that we won't be able to replace in a hurry.
Genuinely pleased with the Dykes and Smyth deals. Would be even more buoyed if Field signed an extension as well. Stephen Duke-McKenna and Arkell Jude-Boyd have both agreed new contracts as well. Wonder if we might see more younger players in and around the first team this season, got to really given how thin the squad is.
