I think that Ingram has definitely improved with the ball at his feet and is a decent shot stopper but your point about his reluctance to come for crosses really identifies his problem area. It is in this particular aspect of his game that Karl Darlow really does shine.

The stats for both keepers are very very close, for example....

    Short pass completion %
    Darlow 99.5%
    Ingram 99%

    Medium pass completion %
    Darlow 97.2
    Ingram 98.6

    Long pass completion %
    Darlow 37.1
    Ingram 40.9

    Crosses stopped %
    Darlow 6.5
    Ingram 5.9

    Expected save %
    Darlow 75.3
    Ingram 75.5

Both keepers are very close in pretty much every aspect, both stronger on some then the other. ( I know stats aren't everything but it's an indicator non the less )

Ingram is under rated but a fair few for some reason ( seems to happen a lot with city players ) and there's no question he's a good keeper but is Darlow really worth 3x the weekly wage of Ingram and a transfer fee on top when we have other more pressing areas to improve.

Its more than that though HT2 isn't it... it's about the confidence of the players in front of the keeper..

No, that we agree on, which is why if we were to sign a new keeper this summer I think a younger one who is still proven in the Championship but wouldn’t demand anywhere near as much as Darlow would be a better investment. That’s why I mentioned Johansson. If that’s not financially feasible, I wouldn’t have a problem with us not signing a new keeper at all and Ingram being first choice with Lo-Tutala as back-up and Robson as third choice whilst Cartwright goes on loan again. I think a left-back, a CDM and a couple wingers are a bigger priority over a keeper if there are budget constraints.

As good as Darlow is and as much as some people rate Connolly, none of the loanees in January are worth paying to make permanent if it means we can’t strengthen in other areas. I’d take Darlow on loan again but I’m starting to think it’s just not worth the trouble at this point pursuing a permanent deal.

Could almost be a conspiracy to keep going on about the keeper
Instead of talking about where we are bang average in positions

Ingram is far less comfortable with the short passing game than Darlow was. Those short pass completion stats really aren't a great indication at all, if Ingram plays a bad ball to Seri and Seri gets dispossessed, Ingram gets the pass completion stat yet we just conceded (I think this might be true story actually). You really can just feel the tension at times with Ingram, He's certainly not bad at it, just not very good at it either. I do think he is a good goalkeeper in other aspects though.

I think I remember the game, but from my memory, it was Seri who tried too hard, fell, looked for the foul, didn’t grab the ball like a lot of players do, then possession lost & goal.
My thoughts on Ingram, is, he doesn’t seem to look for a different option, it’s as if he’s been told to play short passes & then doesn’t look any further than the short pass.
Hopefully it’s worked on in training & he improves in that area, but like most, I’ve said it before. I think Ingram’s good enough to be No1, unless someone outstanding, that would be a clear better option, becomes available.

I actually defended Sinik a lot and thought he was unlucky with injuries and didn’t get a fair chance to show what he could do when he was fit and then he was loaned back to Turkey. However, I think we just need to cut our losses and try to recoup some of the money we paid for him after his half-decent loan at Antalyaspor. There’s also the rumour that he and Tufan are a bad influence on one another and I’d rather we keep Tufan.

There’s probably a decent player in there somewhere but I doubt he’ll be it for us.

No he isn’t. I’d rather sign a back up to Ingram or use a keeper we already have.

Unless we are signing someone really decent who is better than Ingram, then I don’t see why the French lad or David Robson can’t be number 2. How else do they become “ready” for the first team

Because it's really risky if you intend to be a top 6 side.

How does sitting on the bench prepare you to become a no.1? You need to play games and improve

There is no way Ingram would be a number 1 in a top 6 side. The difference was obvious when Darlow came in and everyone knew it. He is a decent keeper, no more than that. If we start the season with Ingram as first choice then we don't have aspirations of promotion.

Ingram has improved by a fair margin during his time with us and he will have learnt from darlow as well. I think we need to trust in our management team not only on the keeper, but all our signings during this window. Certainly i believe they have a much better idea to what we need than they did a year ago. I personally think we will see a similar amount of comings and goings as last year but it will take all of the window and some surprises on the way

When McG came in, everyone noticed an immediate upgrade in the GK position, when Jak was left as no1 in our return to the PL, everyone panicked, me included. Memories of that Sheffield Wed game, but he stood up to it & became a good GK, when we stupidly signed Marshall, unnecessarily, who was not up to any standard that would see him start, yet he started under Phelan, probably because of pressure from above. Similar to Shota starting or including players in whatever position last year. Jak was the obvious starter, yet he was replaced. Is Ingram a Jak substitute in this team?
Unless we’re signing someone to really improve, beyond a couple of points in their “stats”, then it’s an unnecessary waste of a transfer, money & time.

I don't know whether true or not, but I have seen a couple of posts on twitter saying Rossy doesn't want Sinik and Tufan together as when Sinik was with us they were too clicky in the dressing room. Since Sinik left Tufan has knuckled down and upped his levels.
