It makes sense to try and get the loan made permenant. he has been impressive for us, and if he carries on like this for longer them more clubs, especially in the EPL will try and seek out a bargain.

Great move, I hope NC will push the boat out for Jos, it would be tragic if we lost him and had to look for a replacement in January. At the very least I would expect the loan to be extended to the end of the season.

On that same page it gives the current odds for winning the NPC, I can't believe Saints are as short as 11/8! Please can someone remind me what the odds werer before the season started?

Yes this is great news! I met him last night on a flight back from Paris. He and the rest of the squad must have had the weekend off during the international break. He took his missus on a romantic weekend away. He was very friendly to talk to. Said he was loving life down south and was made to feel unwanted by the current management up north. He confirmed that talks were in progress. He was very happy to chat and even started asking me questions. Such a nice guy. Please let this deal go through!! COYR's!!

im really unsure on this, maybe im plucking it out of thin air but i think a lot of the bookies were saying 16/1.

I know that we were 10/1 very shortly after Fox (which was what, mid-late August?). But what we were at the very start, I honestly don't know.

We were 14/1 prior to finding out who was relegated into the NPC. Thereafter we went out to 16/1 only to be cut to 10/1 after humping Leeds!

Cheers guys, so, from 16/1 to 11/8 after only a third of the season? Wish I'd got a pound or two on in July!

Fantastic News!

You can tell which clubs would've been looking at him, it would've been teams in the bottom half, then again it is so tight at the moment! (Points-wise)

Great news - hopefully he will choose us over some crappy team like Wigan, the sort I would reckon are watching

Fact is, almost every new signing of a player a club makes has the settling in time with the new team, but Jos Hooiveld has already done that. He's already a Saints player bar the money changing hands. As far as Saints AND he is concerned, he's probably better off with us. Even though Celtic are arguably the biggest club in Scotland, and would have a greater chance of qualifying for European competition, simply because there's less of it in the Scottish PL, I think Hooiveld would see that the potential in Southampton FC is possibly better. He's settled in; he's one of the first names on the teamsheet; he's possibly [some might say probably] going to be playing in the biggest Premier League in the world, against going back up north and not necessarily getting a game, and when he does, the quality of the test ultimately won't be that stern, and the everyday rewards will be less too.

Plus he loves the view of Southampton Water..! It's a no brainer, surely..? ;)

I have a feeling just as someone else said, I think it is a question of handing the money over. One would imagine that the deal was done and dusted before he came. Always assuming that the trial period proved satisfactory. It would be a good acquisition in my book.

He has got to sign and stay, its a no-brainy for himself and Southampton FC. Just hope Celtic dont try to hold us to ransom and demand too much, but I believe a deal would have been negotiated prior to the original loan deal, lets hope so eh.

I shall wince the first time he heads a ball.

That's the issue isn't it. You'd have thought that his skull would potentially be weaker now, so how are they going to protect him from serious injury? Petr Cech wears protective head gear but he is a goalkeeper so he can get away with it. An outfield player can't wear anything as he needs to be able to head the ball effectively, otherwise he's pretty useless.

Petr Cech doesn't actually need to wear it, its just precautionary so it doesn't happen again.
