Eaves hold up play invariably resulted in the referee awarding a free kick against him. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
From.my recollection Eaves second touch either resulted in a tackle or a foul, he wasn't gifted in close control !
Eaves’ first touch was horrendous. Magennis was decent at holding it up and backing in to be fair to him. Just couldn’t score with his feet.
Always said I'm happy to be proven wrong on him. If it turns out he is a class player then all good as far as I'm concerned. I just don't see anything yet.
Over his career he's averaged a goal every 2.9 games. He's hit 13 in 34 league games for us in his first season in English football, done that in a team with almost zero consistent service, a team with no consistency in regards to starting 11, horrendous injuries thought the team so no constant playing partners etc and missing 12 games himself ( he'd of had about 17 goals if he'd played all 46 if you go on his goals a game stats for us ) ... Yet people still claim he isn't decent or they just don't see anything in him..... You really have to scratch your head and wonder sometimes.
So we want a striker who holds the ball up (whilst playing up top on his own), brings other players into the game, and scores a shed load of goals but for very little wages and transfer fee eh? Dream on!
Supposedly, we’re looking at Haji Wright again but it won’t be cheap. We could potentially whittle down Antalya’s asking price by a couple million if we include Sinik as part of the deal.
We will do well to keep onto him then and if we do I look forward to watching him fire 20 goals in next season with the 'consistent service' and 'consistent starting 11'. I'm not that impressed by a 1 in 3 goal ratio and it seems nobody else has been otherwise he would be at a big club by now. As I've said, I will be happy to admit I'm wrong if and when he proves to be worth the vastly increased money he is getting compared to Eaves. People are missing that crucial point when comparing him to Tom. It's like swapping a Kia Sportage for a Range Rover, trippling your monthly payments and then realising if you had kept the Sportage you would still have got to the same destination but just had a few more quid in your pocket.
The destination being the number of goals? We could have kept Eaves for another 4 years and he wouldn't have got the number of goals in that time that Oscar did in 1 year
What a weird comparison and in absolutely no way relevant, but let's go with it......so are you saying you think we'd have got exactly the same out of tom eaves goals wise Or that if we'd have kept him and not got Oscar we'd have just finished exactly the same etc..... Either way it's bonkers.
I'm saying we're paying a small fortune for a player that (according to you) has a 1 in 3 goal ratio and has not improved us enough to justify the amount of money it is costing. You have cited mitigating circumstances, so lets see what happens next season.
When are the accounts published for 22/23 season? I don’t want to get into a long-winded debate about FFP but I still can’t wrap my head around how we went from having the biggest headroom in the Championship to now being close to the FFP limit.
