I wonder if Southampton fans take some credit for Mane and Van Dijk winning a Premier League title and Champions League.
Why would they to the same extent, they didn't develop them from a Junior to a big money move to the EPL etc.

The Europa league got split in half recently, it’s the lower half of that now, so the third tier of European football. The Europa League version of the FA trophy.
Just think back to the old days of European Cup, European Cup Winners Cup and the Uefa Cup. Three levels all worth winning. Yes yes we know the European Cup was only the league winners and not 4 from a high ranking league as now, but let's not cloud the point.

I have just seen the news this morning. I didn’t even know West Ham were in the final.

Delighted for Bowen, he deserves all the success he earns.

Isn’t the conference league regarded as a glorified friendly/reserve competition though? I thought everyone hated the concept.

Depend on the club and which league you are playing in. For a Swedish team getting a decent run in the Europa Conference League can double your income for the year giving you a significant edge in the domestic league.

I don't why City fans are so passionate about us being acknowledged my commentators/national media for his success. There's a weird insecurity and tinpot obsession by certain sections of our supporters regarding former players.
I don't think we've ever had a player come through the academy (OK he was bought as a youngster from Hereford) into the first team who has then gone on to play regularly at the very top level, certainly not anyone who even comes close over the past 30 or so years, to see a young lad become the player he has certainly makes me feel a touch proud of him, he's still my young kids' favourite player so yeah delighted for him, and great to see him bag the winner in a european competition.

I don't think it's 'insecurity' or 'tinpot obsession'. The fact is that we've won next to **** all ever, we aren't a big club, so it's nice to see players like Bowen who's careers City helped shape go on and do well.
Similar with Harry and Robertson although I'd guess that for obvious reasons most will get more satisfaction / pleasure seeing Bowen do well with West Ham than from Harry and Robertson as they ended up with Man U and Liverpool.
Seems natural & understandable to me, at least until we establish ourselves as a big club :emoticon-0105-wink:.
It's not just us either, I know plenty of Shef Utd fans who felt similarly about Jagielka and his career at Everton for all those years whilst they were wallowing in semi obscurity, who doesn't love seeing one of your players come good when they leave in the right circumstances

I never realised Hereford’s kit looked so much like ours…

He never scored for Hereford in the League. His one goal for them was in the Conference. So, technically, it is correct.
