What happened to the offence of “ obstructing the public highway”? Does it still exist , or is it only if you do it with a vehicle?
If I am held by someone in a room against my will for an unknown period of time - kidnap ? So , if I’m held in the road , unable to drive forward , or turn round ,held to that spot indefinitely against my wishes - I consider that to also be “ kidnap”. It would never hold as I understand the kidnap laws to be very ambiguous and confusing and under long term review

I believe the offence still stands, but that the relevant Cheif Constable has discretion on it's policing.

As most of them are now stampted out clones from University, they not only do not understand what normal people want and expect from the force for which they pay, they have been taught to loathe the same people's values.

I know a couple of policemen, both mid forties, and they now hate their job and the people who they answer to. Morale is underground. This is a very bad thing for civic society and it will not end well.

The Force, as with most institutions, has been taken over by zealous, sometimes far left, intolerant, arrogant and patronising bigots.

This is why nothing changes in the way most "normal", people would like.

Most institutions have always been influenced by over zealous, intolerant, arrogant and patronising bigots. In this country at least they’re not usually far left mind, much more likely to be right leaning.

I suppose it depends on what you mean by " right".

The institutions certainly, including the BBC, are known to be staffed largely by privately educated, often Oxbridge individuals. But few if any of these people now would ever voice a " right wing" view, even if that can be properly defined.

We certainly know by evidence that the Civil Service and the Home Office are basically refusing to enact the current government's immigration proposals, even threatening strike action because for being asked to do their jobs.

We are seeing teachers sacked by Eduacation authorities for not being as fanatical as they on pupil's sex.

It's nuts, and getting out of control. It's why we see police officers, dancing in the streets with people who are blatantly breaking the law and causing serious criminal damage.

I think there was a time when most of the institutions were indeed more conservative, with a small c, but that time seems to have long gone.

Watched a bit of the BBC news this morning, it's Derby Day and the course have allocated an area for peaceful protests, the clip ended with them interviewing a young Irish lass who said she would happily use the area provided but would attempt to enter the track to disrupt the race as it's her right to save the poor horses.
Don't think she quite understood the definition of peaceful protesting.

It has become more common, over the years, for people from ALL levels of Society to stand up and claim they have a 'right'.
Or an 'entitlement'.

I can not remember ever hearing anyone from this loud-mouthed community of self appointed PC biggots go on to discuss their RESPONSIBILITIES.

For example, when they claim the right to 'Free Speech' they never seem to understanf that those who disagree with them have the same right.
If The National Front have the right to march through my Town, spouting their bile, then I must have the same right to oppose them.
And as long as this stays as a shouting match, that's ok. But I can not ever recall any protester acknowledging that their opponants had any rights at all.

And, unpleasant as the thought is, WE, the silent majority, have brought this on ourselves for letting the extrmists set the agenda.

And that's the problem right there.

I believed it was a bad move for the BLM movement to hang their campaign on the shrine of George Floyd who I thought was a poor example of a martyr.

According to the people trying to shout me down that made me a racist, no doubt about it apparently.

When I said they were claiming the murder was racially motivated, based entirely of the colour of the officer's skin, that confirmed I was a racist

All of this proves that, with someone who's 'on message' there's no room for an alternative view ... you're just wrong.

I can see both sides of the horse racing debate and aagree/disagree with both in various ways ...

... but people want to see everything as black and white these days, daft imo.

Look at the national, that disruption caused the horses to become distressed and caused more to hit the fences!

She had an answer for that as well…if the owners knew before the race that their horses were distressed they should have withdrawn them from the race..obviously not the protesters fault at all

I used to go quiet regular when I was younger, bought a bloody horse once for no apparent reason. Last time I went I took a right instead of a left and ended up in the middle of all the travellers caravans instead of the car park, they just said leave it maté we’ll keep an eye on it. Still there untouched when I got back at tea time.

problem these days is social media, if the kids say something 'wrong' then the abuse hurled at them soon changes thier minds, no different to the rest of us as they all want to be liked and in the group...but i truly believe it is killing any freedom of thought and good discussion.

much like these 'reality show copiers' with those ridiculous big lips, massive cheeks, blown up breasts and fly away lashes (remind me of the female from the band in the muppets) and the blokes are now having more and more work done now...somebody got publicity and got lots of 'likes' so the herd follow.

what adds to any problems are those in power bending over backwards to promote any kind of group as it wins them more likes or as they call them...votes, also leaves the forces in a bad way as they are sent out to protect the idiots chaining themselves to railings and blocking roads because someone had a bad accident while racing away in a stolen car from the police, there is a trend now that is growing that is 'it is my right to do this if and when i want and nobody has the right to stop or challenge me'... i am all for people being able to make some kind of stand but they have to realise that if it affects people just trying to get on with thier lives then they have to accept consequences.

The race has started they get onto the track then claim the race was started after they get in the track but upload a video showing the race underway in the big screen as the protester gets on the track!

It all comes down to education , or lack of it. Especially regarding the method of government we all are meant to live by; parliamentary democracy.

If you want change, campaign for it, argue your case, persuade people to vote for you, or persuade elected individuals to carry your cause. Then there might be a law change, which should attempt to strike a balance between the various differing strands of societal opinion.

But that's no good for these people. The "demand" things "now". Most of them have never yet spent a productive day in their entire lives, yet feel qualified to instruct those who do, and who pay for everything, how to live behave and even think.

They are in for a rude shock when they look for gainful employment in the real world, unless they get work in the diversity department at one of thousand or so QUANGOs, or some other public body.
