To be fair, we spoke to some experienced cruisers who were trying to reassure is it isn’t usually like that. They did seem very short staffed. Where are you going?
We did ask for a table for two, and ended up on one for six. To be honest, the first night was chaos. It was very slow service, our water was serving two tables (normally it’s two waiters for one table). He was apologetic afterwards and explained that the other table ordered all four starters and two choices for mains. The food wasn’t fantastic either, so we went for the buffet option most of the week.

Sounds like there’ll be plenty of room outside (or inside). We were looking at that one tbh. I shared the reservations you have and would like to say mine were unfounded. To be fair, all those experienced cruisers who were trying to convince us that it’s not always like this can’t be wrong! They are an odd breed though, Mrs A summed it up saying it seems they go on a cruise so they have an appreciative audience of like minded people to talk about the cruises they have been on. And admitting that we were not impressed with the cruise was met with real disdain!

Never saw the appeal of a cruise, a bit like going to a massive hotel and being told you can’t go outside for a week.

Agreed, though you can go outside just not out the garden. Also, you’d struggle to get the hotel down the fjords.
We tried it because Mrs A has mobility issues (caused by chemo). Until her illness in 2021 we both really enjoyed travelling. We thought it could be the way forward, so really disappointed that we didn’t enjoy it.

All you anti-social buggers who don't care for sharing a cruise ship with the oiks, why don't you just hire a boat?

    Norfolk Broads or a canal.

You're your own master on a narrowboat.

Yes, it includes all the provisions you buy and stow aboard, before casting off the vessel ;)

Or your own slave! You seen Caen Hill locks?

Having said that I've been on the canals a few times over the years, always enjoyed it. Nothing better than approaching a good pub from canal-side just as the sun's dropping over the yardarm, so to speak...

    Off abroad soon.
    Beach towel washed ready.
Just look at that absolute beauty.
Absolutely criminal that we had such a beauty taken away from us (spitefully).
Still got some shorts and a couple of t-shirts with the old emblem on. Will be proudly displaying them as usual, with new emblem stuff only as a last resort.

I think the opposite instead, each day you go off the ship and are in totally different ports visiting totally different areas.

Unless there is an outbreak onboard and the ship is quarantined

Tried it once with an ex, who used to go with her family, so persuaded me. She loved it, it wasn't for me - I'm anti-social in my own time and don't like face to face small talk, plus I felt claustrophobic in the cabin at night. Each to their own - everyone we met aboard seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Read something the other day. Passengers were complaining that because cruise ships were so big these days it took so long to disembark/re-embark passengers at stopovers that they often got no more than an hour or 2 in the different ports.

We've done two cruises on Norwegian Cruise Lines. They have what they call 'freestyle dining' so other than a couple of premium restaurants where you have to book to ensure you eat when you want to, you basically just turn up whenever you want wherever you want to, no set times. Sometimes there's a little wait but it works very well.

Nah, my reverse mooring of the boat is far better than my reverse parking of my car, could be because a boat doesn't steer in reverse! Been on the Norfolk Broads three times (innuendo optional) and hopefully will be back. :emoticon-0125-mmm:
