I genuinely haven’t looked forward to a transfer window so much, whether we’re championship or premiership whether we have Ross Stewart or we don’t, what we will have is a team of very talented lads that will fight for each other and that’s all I can ever ask for from this club

things change quickly in football tho. They will spend big in summer and they’re 3 wins at the start of next season away from it looking a smart move. That’s at least the ambition Alex Neil will be selling him.

make no mistake of course he’d be taking a punt on that but I can’t see the step down being “massive”. It’s not like he’s going to Wigan for example. It’s an established championship side with a good manager and a bucket load of money to finally spend on building a good side around him. And it’s with the manager who helped him produce his only ever good season in the game.

Obviously I think we are a better bet - that’s why I still think it’s a step down. It’s just not massive. And especially when combined with a virtual doubling of his money I can completely see why he’d make the move even if it breaks my heart AND at the same time think there’s nothing more the club could or should do to stop him

They were under financial fair play restrictions for a while. This summer will be the first one without. If they are sensible, they won't be spending millions this summer and will want to stay within ffp limits. Not sure what they revenue is, but can't be a lot more than ours at all guess. They could gamble on promotion but it's a hell of a gamble

Everyone is massively down playing the Stewart situation in my opinion.

Stewart, Simms and Amad have scored 44% of our league goals this season - 29 in total, despite 2 of them not playing half a season.

We don't just need to replace that this summer, we need to score so much more to make up a 30 point gap between ourselves and the Champions position in this division.

I have all the faith in the world in our recruitment team finding young talent to develop, but making up that number of goals will take proven talent, or a higher pedigree than we're usually able to sign. Losing Stewart would be a huge blow.

Except we did sign players of that quality. Even if they were loan signings (2 of them) our recruitment team did find Stewart, Amad and Simms. Not to mention the other players of quality we've signed in other positions, some of them from nowhere (Hume). No reason to think they won't be able to do the same again.

Would I prefer if we kept Stewart? Of course.

But with the team we've got, and how we play, if we get a striker(s) in who suit our style, then I'm sure they'll score goals.

exacrtly. Not downplaying Stewart leaving (if he leaves) at all. But those three cost us a combined £300k. Our recruitment team will have 20-30 times that amount (whatever we sell Stewart for) to replace them.

And not just greater financial strength but also a greater starting point (consolidated in championship not newly promoted) and a greater reputation for bringing on loan signings

The alternative spin on Stewart is that he’s had one good season in his entire career, and it was in League One.

Other than that it’s continued niggling injuries, or worse, serious injuries.

I think we all know he’s brilliant, and that the above is a sceptical view of him. But it’s also true.

£30k per week? For one good season in League One?

It’s both the reason why we absolutely shouldn’t be matching that kind of salary, and also why I personally wouldn’t blame him for taking it. He’ll be 27 by the time he goes there and might never get a better financial offer.

If Stoke want to pay £7m plus I’d let them do it. I’d be bitter as **** about it but with a rational head on it just makes sense to reinvest in for somebody who doesn’t want to play for Stoke.

This is the thing for me, because he only has a year left & his injury problems...surely a big fee is not incoming, if we get offered 7m...id rather we kept him, chanced our arm on promotion & he either leaves on a free or signs new deal here hopefully in the PL

Who am I to say what the hurdle is but I agree. If it’s not enough I think we just keep him and let him take the risk that that Stoke offer is still there in a year. If he has a bad year it won’t be and we can then sign him on. If he has a good year then fair play to him. Chances are if he has a good year, so do we. So it’s win win.

I chose £7m as that “feels” like a large enough number I’d be wanting to take now. But it entirely depends on the financial situation of the club and also the deals they can get done with that kind of money.

Whats best is I completely trust Speakman and KLD to do what’s right for the progression of the club, not for short term gain for their own back pockets. Unlike is the case at unfortunately most clubs in the EFL.

If for example the club identify 4 quality additions and need to raise £10m to get them, and we have a choice of selling Stewart or Clarke to get them, then I’d be driving Stewart to Stoke myself.

If we don’t need to sell him to bring such additions, or another player (let’s use Clarke as an example) demands a move to an EPL side and we raise the funds that way, then we can play harder ball with Rossco

No matter what happens this weekend I cant wait for the summer transfer window. I know a lot of talk on Stewart and while he would be hard to replace, we finally have a recruitment team that we can trust to replace him.

There is always better players out there for us to sign and we have a recruitment team who can find them. We have a plan and a vision, and most importantly we have the people at the club who can execute that plan.

I've been doing quite a bit of video scouting across Europe recently so I will share some names with you guys of players I think we should sign (I'll be sending onto the club as well) - just waiting to see what league we are in 1st!!

Have you come across a player called Daschner at St Pauli? I have a couple of mates who go out to watch them a few times each season and they say he is definitely worth a chance at championship level.

There's no way we're leaving £7m on the table to let him go for free. I'd say we might even accept £5m if he won't sign a contract.

It would cost the club about an extra £3.5m to bump Stewart up to the alleged £30k a week he's after from £15k which is around our limit. If we were going to decided to cost ourselves £7m for the sake of 1 years' goals, it would be far more cost effective to spend the additional £3.5m for 4 years (with the option of recouping some through a future sale).

I agree entirely. but the cost of offering him those wages is actually much more than that, as it increases our wage structure and every other person who comes to negotiate with us will expect more.

but thats being pedantic.

I agree there's no way we'd turn down £7m. And probably not £5m.

But I guess we are also second guessing about a thousand decisions the club need to make that we aren't aware of. Plus we aren't aware of agent fees, loyalty bonuses etc. thats how fecked up football is, if we sell Stewart to Stoke for £5m we will probably have to pay him when he leaves and pay his agent for brokering the deal as well :D

Brighton have agreed to sign Brazil forward Joao Pedro from Watford for a club record fee of just under £30m.
The 21-year-old joined Watford in 2020 and has scored 24 goals in 109 appearances, including 11 this season for the Championship side.

Not a patch on LND but ‘Brazilian’. Madness.

Joao Pedro does some nice things but he isn’t quick, he drifts in and out of games and doesn’t close down.

That said, I imagine Brighton turn him into an absolute baller and sell him for double in 2 years. They get everything right down there it’s a real shame they don’t have more involved fans.

If we were Brighton right now it would be electric.

Joao Pedro has significantly more upside potential than LND as you say. He could very easily be sold by them for 70-80m in a couple of years.

It reminds me of when Watford paid £11m for Richarlison and he looked ****, but then managed to sell him to Everton for £35m who then managed to sell him to Spurs for £60m :D

Brazilian but more importantly 21 so there is scope for improvement and a profit at that age.

I often think Ross Stewart is in his 30's forget as one of our senior pro's he is only 26. We have missed Ross and its obvious we would be better off had he been fit all season, even removing the goals etc... I miss his intensity I've said many times on here I love watching the way he doesn't give the opposition back line a seconds peace! I think the personality it takes to keep that up week after week is lacking in most strikers. If he was to go he wouldn't be the same miss next season as we will 100% be bringing 2 or 3 strikers in this summer.

Stewart is a great finisher, but the way he harasses defenders and keepers opens space, and we have Clarke and Roberts who are absolute ballers at this level, that space to them is a weapon.

I agree that with the way we play any striker will bag goals for us. I dispute that anyone can compliment the wide men like Ross, that’s gonna be really hard to replace.

He would have easily hit 20 this season. That’s putting him £20million plus based on Watkins/Pedro/Toney.

I think even underrate the lad sometimes and we know how good he is.

He is absolutely outstanding imo and as good a finisher he is, it's probably the weakest part of his game. He puts himself about and holds it up like a man possessed for every minute of every match he plays like we are 1-0 down in the fa cup final! Full season fit and he would have easily established himself as one of top scorers in this league imo (he scored 10 in 13), then you have everything else he provides on the pitch and we are screening big offers for his signature!

Will be gutted if he goes to Stoke as it isn't for footballing reasons if it happens.

If we get promoted though can't see us losing any of these lads. Only one we can't say no to an offer for is Cirkin but I assume Cirkin can say no?
