Here in Australia Remembrance Day gets little attention compared to Anzac day, not to mention the fact that I was completely sleep deprived at the time. And I'm about to graduate from school, so I've had other things on my mind.

Had I known it was Remembrance Day I wouldn't have said any of the crap I did, I have enormous respect for the veterans of conflicts worldwide - was just posting a funny anecdote - didn't mean to cause offense.

Over here in Australia it was Armistice day, but I'd completely forgotten and at my school everyone was going on about 11PM on the 11th day of the 11th month of the 11th year earlier on.

So in class just as everyone went silent I began to swearily rant about how stupid it was that people make such a big deal out of such minute crap. All the while people were telling me to shut up, without explaining why. I'm so used to being told to shut up I just kept going until I saw the Poppy logo on someone's Google.

I then collapsed with embarrassment.

Rest in peace to the war dead.

Respect to all people in the forces but I feel its something of a shame that there now isn't a Remembrance day that is purely for the great wars. There is a big difference between volunteering to risk your life in the army and being conscripted; and I feel that it's often overlooked these days, when the media refer to the day as rememberance for all of those who lose their lives in military service, that many simple, ordinary men who would not ordinarily have volunteered were sent off to a horrible death with no regard or care for their lives by the fat idiots in charge of them.
Don't intend to disrespect anybody in the army who has lost good friends or family, perhaps my point of view would be hard to agree with if you've been in the army yourself. I just feel that it's far more unjust a loss of life when the person in question had no choice in whether they put themselves in such risk at all. I know I'd not be cut out to fight my way through one of the world wars - and yet so many were simply bundled into it.

Well said, Good Sir! You make a valid point. There is a massive difference in Volunteering, and having no choice in the matter.

I mean, this in no disrespect to the soldiers of today. After all, my Uncle is a medic out in Helmand.

But, there should be something else for the dead from the 'Great War'. On both sides they were just normal men, and made to fight each other. Simply down to the madness of a few politicans and generals! Its always been a ****ed up world.

And without getting controversial, this fighting for our freedom argument kind of grinds on me, since when were we in Iraq and Afghanistan for "our freedom".

Thats fair enough and i would probably agree with you. But in the end isn't the only thing that matters that the people of afghanistan are free?

Yeah, Afghanistan was fairly justified but I was looking at the situation now, and the possible additional motives.
Like many others, I wan't us out of there as soon as possible and hand everything over to their government (if they can handle it).

It's just the word "fighting for our freedom" seems a bit over the top for me, it was pretty relevant during the Great Wars when we were truly in a pretty tough situation.
Probably best to acknowledge that every soldier fights for the country, whatever the situation.

Though it's interesting to note that during the Clinton administration, the US actually intervened to prevent Iran invading Afghanistan to rid them of the Taliban after a number of public executions took place. Now it's all the rage.

You make a valid point! However, I do feel that 9/11 was just used as a springboard to invade Afghanistan for its Oil!

Lets face it, If America were TRULY determined to put an end to all Terrorism, they'd have invaded Pakistan long before now.

Nope, I dont really agree with us being in the Middle East, to the extent we have been. But nonetheless, I have nothing but respect for the Men & Woman who have been out there fighting. They're braver than I could ever be.
